Here It Is!

So as many of you know, my girlfriend and I have been dating for almost 5 years now. Figured it was about that time, so I've been saving up for a ring. Well here it is.

My grandma really helped me out with it. She found a local jeweler to actually custom make it. The cluster in the middle is my grandma's; it came from her original engagement ring my real grandfather gave her back in the late 50's. My grandfather died RIGHT before I was born, about a month before, but she remarried when I was 3 years old. My step grandfather is like my real grandfather, though. He's always been there for me. Anyway, so she had no use for this cluster, and she wanted to make the ring more special and hold sentimental value. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. It's perfect and I believe she'll love it. Overall, the cost for me was $663 even, however it is about $1,300 in value. Reason for this: 1. My grandma provided the diamond cluster, and 2. She traded in some scrap gold and diamonds she had lying around. Hence the discounted price. It worked out really well, me being a broke college kid and all. I was going to wait until June 16, 2011 to propose, which will be our 5 year anniversary, but my brother made a good point- it doesn't really matter when you propose. The ring was ready earlier than expected so it was at my grandma's house this past Sunday (they went and picked it up for me, and I gave them the money for it Sunday) when the whole family was up celebrating Christmas. I was able to sneak away my little sister, two older brothers, and my dad to show them the ring, which was hidden downstairs in the basement closet in my grandparents' lockbox. Anyway, this is when my bro gave me the advice. He actually told me to march my ass upstairs right then and there and do it, but I wasn't quite ready, plus I had told my grandma and dad I was waiting until June. But I think I'm going to do it early- January 1st. Or New Years Eve, but I'd have to do it at work, when I come in to relieve my gf (we both work at the same hotel). I don't really want to do it at work, haha. But I'm almost 100% positive I want to do it early. Anyway, what do you guys think about the ring and the proposal date?

Here's an old but good pic of us:

I'm sorry Chris, I can't accept that ring right now...........it's just, things are weird right now and I don't think it's a good idea this soon. Ask me again in a few years or so, hopefully things are better then.

Jk, man bout damn time. It looks just like my co...............I mean, pretty ring.

I love the concept of passing along heirlooms this way. If I were you, I'd present the ring on New Years Eve. Set up a cozy little mini-party with you, her, and family. Pull out the ring and kneel at midnight. Edited by noodle

Haha Travis... I will always love you. My woman just can't ever find out, so shhhh!

Noodle- can't do it like that. On New Years Eve, she works until 11PM, and I come in at 11PM (we both work at the same hotel). She did say she was going to stay until midnight, to kinda celebrate at work. I don't know when I'm going to do it.

Click and Mush- No, she doesn't read the forum, not anymore anyway, haha.

Talk to your supervisor and tell him what's going on. Get him in on the plan and then arrange with your girl to stay until midnight. With the help of a supervisor making a bit of space in your schedule at midnight. If you drop to your knee as everyone is shouting "Happy New Year" she will be absolutely blown away. It's not the place that matters, it's the emotion. And because you work at the same pl.ace, you can bet your co-workers would love to help you make it happen. Everybody loves a good romance.

It's true you could wait, but even we can tell you don't want to, lol......... So go for it.

Thanks Rani, but it will only be the two of us there anyway. Not many people coming into a hotel at that hour. Especially on New Years Eve. Right now I'm thinking of doing it at work, or maybe Friday or Saturday morning right when we wake up, then go out to eat lunch to celebrate.

Congrats man! Also, you look nothing like I expected lol. Good luck, though it sounds as if you won't be needing it.

Congrats!

Propose when ever is unexpected. I did it on a random Saturday, she was still in her PJs.

Girl at work was just proposed to a few a month or so ago her at work, in the early morning....she was worthless all day after that HAHAHA.

The really important part though is the Wedding Date....We went with Memorial Day Weekend...Every year 3 day weekend on our anniversary every year.... Pick a holiday so you don't forget it!!!!
