noodle
With the help of the guys in chat, I've managed to figure out how to get natural coals going on a gas stove. Clouds were decent, though not spectacular. I figured out how to stop it from going harsh. Here's the problem: I've never been able to get flavor stronger than just a weak hint. What could be the problem? The setup last night was lemon-mint Al Waha fluffed into a small Egyptian bowl sitting atop my Mya QT. Coals were Coconaras. mavsfan31
Maybe it's just me, but I think it's the brand. I could never get AW to smoke that flavorful.
Barnaby
Personally, I'm a big advocate of phunnel bowls over Egyptians. Could be that particular flavor though. Think I only have had AW melon, which is ok, but nothing to write home about.

[/quote] I also have a phunnel, but I thought I'd try an Egyptian since I haven't been able to get flavor out of the former either. Come to think of it, the horchata tangiers I had a while ago was flavorful enough. I just didn't like it and I couldn't get it to smoke without harshness. Fortunately this AW was from a 50g packet I got as part of a trade. I'll just chuck the rest and try the Al Fakker berry I've yet to open up. Genie
Do you ever use a wind cover? Amazing what a difference it can make when you know you need more heat for smoke and flavor but an extra coal is just too much, slap the cover on there and sometimes that's the missing ingredient. Just a thought.
