Miki Vanity Price
So I have not used my hookah in MONTHS. I lost the bearing out of the release valve so I had put a tiny aluminum foil ball in to try and fix that. Hooked up the hose, and inhaled to see if it worked. When I did this I inhaled something dusty. So I immediately spit it out and mouth washed. I then blew through the hose and white dustyness came out. I preceded to run hot hot water through it and once I was satisfied that it was clean and smoked with it. What the hell could that dustyness have been? Is that normal? IainUM
well if you haven't smoked in a long time there could be dust or rust in it. i know with my old hose i used to have before my nammor, i used it once after not using it for a month or two and i inhaled something dust-like. also, unless it is a washable hose (nammor, razan, narbish, km washable, etc) you just ruined the hose even further. the hose consists of, basically, a metal coil covered in fabric. once you run water through it, it is pretty damn hard to get all of it out, so if you have done that in the past, it has probably started rusting. i think it might be time to get a new hose. if you do, i suggest any of those washables i just mentioned. cant really go wrong with any of them

IainUM
i mean it could be mold, since it was potentially a dark, wet environment. who knows. i wouldnt use that hose anymore, though
magick777
Did the same here last week, and got the same result; you don't say what sort of hose it is, but most Egyptian style hoses will leave bits in your mouth sooner or later. I happen to live opposite a Middle Eastern grocery store, so I just bought another of the same cheapo hoses for now... will be ordering up a better hose in the near future. The larger online suppliers also carry spare ball bearings, seals and grommets and you might do well to replace those at the same time to get maximum benefit from any new hose. It might be time for a thread on servicing / overhauling a pipe; I'm in the same position of resurrecting an old pipe and will likely try to upgrade it in the process. Let us know how you get on with yours...
Chreees
Iain hit the nail on the head regarding the hose. As for your ball bearing, buy some airsoft BBs. All I use now.
IainUM
there is nothing wrong with those egyptian hoses as long as you realize they are a disposable product meant to be replaced periodically
no longer welcome
i can't stress enough how important it is to use clean products, scrub your hookah before each use, especially if it's been awhile. washable hoses are always a great idea. the obvious: change the water. coal choice is key. after all, you are consuming here. i remember long ago when i'd inhale the gunk, then proceed to wash out a nonwashable hose and see what type of filth has built up, just wrong. what's that saying, cleanliness is godliness? IainUM
what HJ is very true. the only time i dont replace the water in my base is if i smoke one bowl right after another. any other time i wash it out. the great thing about washable hoses is you can wash them (duh) to get any ghosting flavors out of it. i, personally, own a nammor and it is great. my friend daniel has a v4 narbish, and i smoke with him a lot. the narbish was great too. ultimately, in my opinion, the choice on what hose you get depends on what looks the best. you really cant go wrong with any of them
TheyCallMeDave
Hygiene can definantly make or break your session. If you don't own a long scrub brush for your hookah, you can do what I do to clean the inner stem. Take a paper towel, and rip a piece off. wet it thoroughly, and wrap it into a small ball, just slightly less the size of the stem's diameter. place the ball in, and blow through one end of the stem. Do this twice on both ends, works like a charm. Investing in a washable hose will really take you places as far as your session goes. You'll notice a distinct lack of "Hookah Bar" or smokey/dusty flavor often associated with standard non-washable hoses that are older in age. ANYTHING but smoke coming out of your hose, no matter what the color, is bad news bears. Grab a washable on your next purchase, believe me. It's worth it. mushrat
its rust. By washing it you have temporarily washed away the rust but you have also accelerated the rusting process so it will rust faster now. Get a new hose.
