glider
hey guys. ive read the reviews on Tangiers Koke and all are pretty positive. however i cant get any flavor out of it. im no expert with tangiers but all other flavors ive had i have had great sessions out of. great flavor, great buzz, great smoke, great burn. ive tried loading this up in two bowls so far, a tangiers small and the alien. neither has given me flavor that is worthwhile, just clouds and buzz. it also is a lot more sensitive to heat as both sessions i have had burned right from the get go. is there something i dont know about this flavor? i use 3 cocos on my tang small and two on my mini(the normal amount i use on all other flavors) and it is acclimated to the scent described in reviews, which is not that of coke. any advice? did i get a bad batch or is it just a weird flavor? Travis
In my personal experience, Koke doesn't have as strong of a flavor as others. Don't get me wrong, it's there, just not in your face as much as other flavors. 3 ccn on a small sounds like too much heat to me also. Try cutting 2 ccn in half, and putting the four halves on the bowl opposite one another. Other than that, I'm not sure......
glider
ill try that next time. i havent really had a problem with heat for tangiers with 3 cocos. but theres always room to try! thanks! Alex
Travis
Tangiers needs a bit lower amount of heat than some other brands out there. That's why Eric recommends the Japanese Style charcoal, (Golden Canary, Fumari). I know Mush uses Exoticas, which also put out a low amount of heat. Though I rarely use coconara, when I do, I put 4 halves ( like I described to you) on my LARGE haha. Not saying your way doesn't work, just try it and see how it does for you. glider
i like Exoticas for Tangiers as well. very cheap and give out just enough heat to prevent Tangiers burning. never tried Japanese style yet. guess ive just never gotten around to getting a box for myself. ill mess with it a bit. hopefully the flavor will come out more with some toying. IainUM
i agree with travis. i got some from a good friend of mine on the forum, and the flavor isnt very "in your face." you can taste it, but the tobacco taste, in my experience, kinda dwarfs the "koke" flavor to it
king_lunchb0x
ya i just had my first bowl of it yesterdau also....that seems like to much heat..thats what i kinda use to use (2ch nats on both bowl). But i tried splitting the coals and used 3 halfs on a tang small got a little more even flavor from the bowl.. But like TRavis and Iian said its seems to be a lighter flavor..which is kinda crazy cause almost every other tang ive smoked knocks ur socks off with flavor. but still good. joytron
Keep in mind different flavors seem to require different levels of heat, while say something like K-Cherry might work best with four halves on a small phunnel, pear seems to do better with three halves. But yeah, I sent it to Iain to try out because I wasn't a big fan -- Like he said, the tobacco taste is pretty present. It's almost like tobacco cola. Smelled just like Coke for me, but the taste wasn't what I was expecting. I hear it's good mixed with Maraschino Cherry, so if you have any of that laying around you might try that.
