Cloud9
I was given this part to put on the end of the stem of the hookah. It's a cheap plastic piece and it's suppose to turn the bubble into many small bubbles....from what I understand it's suppose to cool it more. Not sure what it's called...but was wondering if you guys (the true pros) use it.

[/quote] that is called a diffuser, i think the most prominent brand of those is made by heba. as far as usage, i know a few people, like jorlyfish, use them. from what i understand, they dont do much more than make your hookah more quiet. i have my doubts on how it may or may not affect the filtration. from what has been said about them before, it seems like the filtration idea is very minimal to non-existant
thehelios
From my personal experience, it only makes the hookah quieter but that's half the fun! It's truly only useful for people who are terrible at cleaning their hookahs regularly and prevents solid objects from possibly entering the vase so you get no chunks in your mouth. If you take my friends case for example, if he did have a diffuser at the time, he wouldn't have had a wasp in his mouth. There you go kids, that's your lesson for the day: Clean your hookahs real often!

TheyCallMeDave
The larger your hookah, the more use your have for a diffuser. The reduce the size of the bubbles, which as said, does a few things. Small bubbling, smaller vibrations. Less noise, less shaking of the stem and coals, more of a sound and stability thing for most people. I know I used to have one on mine, so my parents couldn't hear the bubbling from my room when I lived there
ih303
In theory, smaller bubbles are supposed to result in cooler, smoother smoke. But I'm pretty sure I've written all about it in other diffuser threads, and I'm to tired to get into it again.
Genie
The diffuser is definitely useless for any purpose other than quieting your hookah, which it does remarkably well and I won't smoke without a diffuser unless I want the loud bubbling for some reason--like delighting my niece and nephew. My Bambino shakes like a Mexican jumping bean if I don't use a diffuser on it. My KM doesn't rattle too much, but the hubbly bubbly is just too loud when I'm smoking inside, hence the diffuser.
