Just Bought A New Hookah...

Recommended Posts

... and boy am I friggin' excited.

I was pretty much out of the cash I received from Christmas, so I was kind of over the idea of getting a new pipe (this will be my third, although my first has since met its maker, so it'll just be an addition to my MYA Francesco). I check my bank account, however, and two things happened:

1. My bank rewards a dime for every credit purchase made, and gives a lump sum every 6 months. This just went through.
2. I had a direct deposit paycheck from my job at the University that was delayed because of the end of the semester. I had forgotten about it totally, but it just went through too.

Couple that with the fact that I just renewed said job for the next semester and don't need to worry about saving money while searching for a new one, and all karmic signs pointed to a new pipe.

So I had my eye on a few of the Temsaahs on Hookah Company's website, after reading all of the great reviews in the other thread, so I used a coupon code to purchase the XL Horus (http://www.hookahcompany.com/xl_horus_temsaah_hookah_4994_prd1.htm). I really wanted a huge, traditional pipe, but I really don't like a lot of ornamentation so it just really tickled my fancy, with the clear base and understated stem. I'm very, very excited for it. I think it'll be a nice match for my similarly-colored MYA, with a touch more tradition instead of modern.

Merry belated Christmas to me. :)

That's great news... hope it turns out to be all you hoped for. Two working pipes are definitely better than one as soon as company turns up. Just hosted my first ever two-pipe session this evening with a couple of friends, was really nice to be able to swap flavours at will and that alone makes a second pipe worth the investment.

First smoke will probably be Nakhla Double Apple, in keeping with the Egyptian theme. :)

Does anyone have any experience with pipes of similar stature? Will vibration be something to worry about?

Good choice :)

And I doubt with it's weight you'll have to worry much about vibration.

The word elegant comes to mind. Traditional and elegant a nice combo

So the pipe came, right on time. I won't get a chance to smoke with it until Sunday, when I get back up to my apartment, but I'm super excited. As you'll see in the picture, it's really a beautiful piece of work. A couple observations right off the bat:

- This thing looks like it came right out of a time capsule. There's nothing modern about this pipe, aside from the etching on the base. I wanted something very, very traditional, and this really hit the mark. This pipe, for the most part, feels like it belongs in another time, like there really is a long and rich cultural history that went into it.

- The stem is solid brass, and man is it heavy. The tooling is beautiful, and you can see the spot welds and everything. It's clearly handmade, and really makes me feel like I'm holding something substantial.

- The base is acid-etched and has some 18k gold striping. The glass is hand-blown, which led to a little bump in the bottom. This kind of makes me nervous because the pipe is 36" tall and will have a little bit of a wobble. I'm not too hung up over it, I mean, it's hand-blown.

- The hose kind of feels cheap. The fur on the handle is very fine, almost too fine. I feel like it's delicate and I have to be careful, lest it fall out. The mouth and port pieces are removable, though, which is nice. The port handle is very long, though, and couple with the almost perpendicular hose port on the stem, and the height, I'm worried it might cause some balance problems and make it prone to accidents. Blowing through the hose left nothing to be desired. It's wide open and unrestricted, more so than some of my other hoses.

- Speaking of draw, I'm certain this pipe will have plenty. The hose port hole and down stem are both wide. The hose is not restricting, as I mentioned, and the bowl is very shallow and wide, with big holes, so I think that'll also help out the draw.

- The bowl is not pretty. It's a glazed, traditional Egyptian, but like I mentioned, it's pretty wide and not very deep. I think it'll be really a perfect bowl for Nakhla.

You can browse through the pictures. I'm really pleased, especially for $60 shipped. I'll post more when I get the chance to smoke with it. Can't wait!

George, from HC sends out emails to his customers with specials like this one. This was around New Year and the cose was valid for the first 5 or 10 customers ( i forgot ). I tried looking for the email but looks like I already deleted it.
