Thin-Bottomed Qt Bases.. Remedies?

Recommended Posts

I wasn't quite sure what to think of the reports that Mya QT bases are very thin at the bottom corner. Mine seemed okay enough. I took a good look at mine a week or so ago and saw exactly what everyone was talking about. Has anyone here had a QT base fail from tapping the bottom rim a little too hard? I've been thinking that I could strengthen my base by swirling some food-grade casting resin into the inside of the bottom rim.

I do not own a QT but looking to buy one for the portability if nothing else but I've heard there are several models out there. I was told the Econo model was made of cheaper material including the tem and the base. Also there are 12" and 14" models and one S model. Which model do you have and where did you buy it? I'm affraid to purchase one online and find out its the crappy one. May be you can ask Mush or Stuie since they seem like Mya experts.

I bought the standard 14" version from Hookah-Shisha.com. I didn't know the Econos had a difference in the base, just that the stem is aluminum. I'm not aware of a 12" version.

Don't quote me on this because by no means I'm an expert on this but think they're just different in stem height. I actually had to look up S-Class, because I've never heard the Mya QTs sub-grouped. I've only seen them sold with the height listed. Some are 12", 13" and 14". The S-Class, I believe, is the tallest Mya QT which would be the one I'd go with. Also there is an econo model and I believe two different glass bases (one chinese and one romanian).

the one at southsmoke.com is the QT s-class.

I'm guessing this one is the normal QT:
