Chreees
Okay, so I'm taking a child drama class this semester, and have to either find games online or make up my own. I don't remember any games from when I was a kid, but maybe some of you do. Having trouble finding them online too. This first assignment is characterization- have to do whatever the game is in character. Can you guys help me out? I have to come up with two by the 26th. Chreees
Diablo II, Warcraft, WOW, Starcraft, Doom, Wolfenstein, tank wars, Worms
Not those kind of games, silly! Games that are interactive and you do as a group... like the first game we played was freeze tag. Today the first group did their games. One was "People Bingo" where you're given a sheet with squares like "Has Freckles," "Is Wearing Denim," "Has Brown Eyes," etc., and you run around and write down the person's name who has that quality on that block. At the end, whoever has the most squares filled with names wins. Another game was you have a partner and get their name, their fav sport, and fav animal. You then introduce them to the class, but act out the sport and animal and the class has to guess it. Another was the "Human Knot," where we got in a circle and grabbed someone's hand not beside us then had to try an untangle. Another one was you're in a circle and throw around a ball and learn people's names. You have to say all the names before yours, add yours, then pass the ball. Anyway, my category is characterization, which means you act out or are in character for whatever you do...

Tyler
I made my students play Around the World today using countries, cities, religions, and languages...basically it's like a trivia thing where one student tries to go "around the world" by getting back to his origonal seat by answering the question correctly before the student they are matched with. Even at 18-24 they loved it lol. Also, heads up 7 up.
Chreees
Thanks Ty, great ideas! I'm definitely using some of these ideas guys! Just wondering how I can change them to add characterization to them.
Tyler
What about the lost civilization? One team is designated the "earthlings" one team is some kindof alien race who landed on earth. they alien race establishes a small language and plays a game with each other that involves trading coins or something like that, the object is for the Earth kids to try to understand the alien race by interacting with them and without any prior knowledge to their language or game....take normally understood emotions and flip them, for example a high five could be the mark of a BAD TRADE or "no" and a pouty face could mean "deal" or "yes" It really challenges kids to think beyond normal perception and easily could be manipulated to involve characterization. Chreees
Sounds cool, but not sure how to make it into a game that can be played for five minutes or so.
noodle
There's something called "Spud" I played in Boy Scouts. Equipment required is something like a couple of socks tied into a ball. This is the spud. In Scouts we used a neckerchief tied into a ball. Everyone numbers off and someone is chosen as IT. IT takes the spud and everyone else clusters around. IT throws the spud into the air and yells out a number. The person who has that number must then wait until the spud falls to the ground, pick it up, then yell "SPUD!". Meanwhile everyone else runs away. When "SPUD!" is yelled, everyone instantly freezes. IT must then throw the spud at someone. The target may duck or sway, but otherwise may not pick his or her feet up off the ground. If hit, the target becomes the new IT and the previous IT goes back into the game. Fouls get you put OUT. Fouls are when someone picks up a foot, doesn't let the spud touch the ground before taking it, missing a throw, calling your number, or calling the number of someone already put OUT. Or just whoever gets it wrong is then out, and it's narrowed down til the winner?

thatonethere
I used to play a game called Elves, Wizards and Giants. It was a variation of Tag. Basically someone gets to be the Giant, and they chase the Elves. The Wizard can un freeze the Elves. I don't remember how the Giant and Wizard would interact, maybe you could incorporate something?
