guest 606
I know i'm gonna get the "you're not 18" thing but anyways, i've been looking around at old posts ( http://www.hookahforum.com/forum/forum_pos...asp?TID=1662&am p;KW=good+hookah) and seen that a lot of people that live with their parents hide it from them. I'm not really down with that but how would you talk to your parents about it. I don't just want to be like "hey, i got a hookah and it's not as bad as cigarettes." Any suggestions would be great. yashman19
I'd just make sure you educate them about it. Tell them some of the differences apparent in smoking ciggs and hookah. Explain to them you admit it isn't the healthiest hobby in the world, but you consider it much healthier than other tobacco products. And stress to them you would like to keep it in moderation (if that is really what you plan to do ). It would just be somthing you want to do with your friends, as a way to bond/relax. Its definitely a social event. Just some ideas. Good luck, not being 18 is a definate negative against your case. Atleast when you are over 18, they can't legally stop you
MrGuy
I'm 16, but i live in the UK, so shisha is legal for me But my intentions are to not go out of my way to hide it, if my parents find out, ask them what they think it is. no doubt they'll say it's for drugs and its illegal etc. At which point, i say it's for shisha, they ask whats that, i say flavoured tobacco. I then proceed to point out how it's not cigarettes and i think cig's are pointless because they smell bad and are uncomfy to smoke, where as shisha, there is not really any downside apart from health risks which aren't as bad as cigarettes (45 mins on a hookah is equivelent of about 2.5 cigs) its pleasurable to smoke, its not addictive, it smells nice, it's relaxing, it wont get you stoned and i could quit when i wanted. And point out i only intend to smoke in moderation (3 or 4 times a week) and not inside the house. In your case, they can stop you (or threaten to report you to police.) If they do that then erm....i dunno.....take them hostage?
mushrat
I'd say wait until you move out and start paying your own way, including your MEDICAL bill before trying to convince me parents. If you were my kid, living in my house, and I was paying for your upkeep, no way you'd be getting a hookah. There are no GOOD reasons really to get one at any age..atleast health wise. nuschultz
Honestly, I agree with the educate them angle. Tobacco smoking isnt the healthiest thing in the world (see my thread about my trip to the doctor), but you could be out smoking weed, injecting various other substances, or having sex with dirty hookers with crotch rot.In that perspective, tobacco seems realistic. dikydave
i just waited for them to find out, told them it wont kill me as fast as drinking and that im otherwise a fairly healthy and decent human being, hehe. doesnt stink up the house, so no one seems to care. Sonthert
My lawyer would advise me to stay away from this thread. There is no difference between cigarettes and hookah, unless you plan to smoke hookah like once a week or something, then you're behavior is more difficult to develop into an addiction.Crap...my lawyer's calling. MrGuy
yup, i got it easy anyway, 2 of my older bro's smoke cigs () anyway, so i'll use that one. Tangiers, shouldn't your lawyers be out defending murderers and rapists?

MrGuy
lol. omg omg omg, ive always wanted to call someone else immature, cracking gay jokes, come on, i thought higher of you tangiers! you're lucky the laws regarding tobacco smoking dont refer to intellectual age. actually no, i take that back, you are pretty intellectual (very intellectual, i might go as far as saying genius) but my little cousins crack gay jokes and they're 8!! MrGuy
and do you know what makes it worse, not the fact you crack gay jokes (just reading through and reinterperating it, you don't really) but the fact you turn them on me! i would expect better from a moderator;-)
looloopoopie
Can someone say "edit button?" (that means no more double-posting! yay!)
MrGuy
Double posting adds to the effect. and besides, the edit button is work of the DEVIL! all this fancy-dan modern technology malarky! baa humbug!
Sonthert
8, eh? Very intelligent and sardonic for 8 year olds! You would expect more from me? Too bad...I think you're expectations are unreasonable. You seem real defensive, I don't judge you harshly anyhow, just realize that...I respect you. I didn't know bringing it up would offend you. The most advanced minds need the most recreation.
Sonthert
I just can't believe someone would say we aren't serious enough...wow!
MrGuy
I'm not gay (not last time i checked) and, to be honest, i don't have a beef against gay people. Similar to you, some of my friends are gay. not a problem. however, i would prefer not to be judged (you never said you didn't judge gay people) by something im not. Okay, i dont expct you to be serious but i expect you to utilize the all powerful (and sinful) edit button!! oh my god tangiers, i can't believe how much of a jack*ss you are for double posting
brettK
TANGIERS AND MRGUY... are you guys serious.... HAHA SHUT UP!!!
Sonthert
This is what the problem is with the edit button...everyone wants an edit button...I made some extraordinarily annoying comments to which Mr. Guy responded very respectfully (For as much of a jerk as I was being) and then I changed my messages to make me look innocent. These are the problems with the edit function...how do other forums handle this sort of thing, anyways?
MrGuy
lol no worries. you're a respectable (LYING CHEATING) guy:) you don't handle. when you see a situation getting out of hand and things are getting abusive, close the thread or caution people in there. I do run a forum, but at the moment, it's still blossoming (only 75 users, of which only about 4 post lol, see my sig) Be reet. one of's will happen, jsut watch out for repeat offenders (i'm watching you tangiers)
Sonthert
Doesn't it add alot of room for provoking fights and then editing the evidence away? I believe thats one of the reasons the edit button left this place initially.
MrGuy
I think it would be quite apparent if someone edits away the evidence. just watch out for people doing it regularly
