peaceman27
I've been spending a lot of time recently getting things in order to start a hookah house. I have my business plan done and investors lined up. I know that I'm going to use Khalil Mamoon Hookahs with Al Fakher shisha. I've gotten a city figured out, and possible locations. I'm going to go with a more traditional style, and have customers sit on cushioned benches and pillows, along with mismatched couches and end tables. My only question is where can I find decorations? I've assembled plenty of Buddhist art, and ohm symbol art.... but that really wouldn't work would it? Any ideas on the kind of art, as well as where to purchase it? And any pointers or ideas for my hookah house?

jorlyfish
Well, being an art student m'self, I'd say find a college with a art program (preferably an art school, but a "regular" school with an art department works too) and pay college kids to make paintings (or photographs, or prints, etc..) for you. They'll be cheap, (hopefully) talented, and you can tell them what you want instead of trying to find it. You could also have it be a gallery of sorts, and tell artists they can hang (non-objectionable) works in there with little price tags to try and sell - you get art for free, new art often (yet another reason for people to come back to your lounge), and you benefit the local art community. Local coffeeshops and restaurants often do this.

I have a gorgeous poster of Lakshmi that I framed from the art supply store for $20. Also thankas from Tibet, etc., that are Buddist representations. Also check Ten Thousand Villages online for knick-knacks if you want them, salt lamps, and hand carved incense burners, etc. Oh! And Karma Culture also has a lot of things including statues and so on at a very reasonable price. 'Rani
peaceman27
Quick answers! Thanks everybody. It couldn't hurt to ask her friends to help though.
jorlyfish
Yep. If shipping work wasn't so expensive I'd send you something, but I doubt you want to pay to ship a large canvas.

The last 36 x 24 canvas I sold cost almost $150 to ship not counting crating. He could almost fly you there and have you do a mural for what shipping a large canvas would cost! Cp44
An area where you can lay down on a mattress or something with pillows or a low round about booths. Have some TV's so people can watch sports, news etc... As for art you probably can find something at your local thrift shop or craigslist.
TheyCallMeDave
A lounge I visit has the art actually painted on the walls. I think it would be a decent idea, if the venue allows, is to get some college artists as previously stated to come in and do a mural for you. Or even just small paintings on the walls all over, as a compilation.
peaceman27
Yeah... my favorite hookah house has murals on the walls too. However, when I asked them about the price I realized that my start-up fund doesn't allow that much for the decor. I found some cool stuff on ebay and I posted something at the local college.
