Wooooo, good thread.  I like lots of stuff.  Rock (Classic stuff, hard rock, whatever)  various types of metal, I'm bad with knowing the differences *shrugs* some hardcore and punk.  I still listen to some of the country I did as a kid.  I like a little bit of rap/hip hop/ etc.  I also play guitar(poorly) and have been doing metal vocal self-training for the past 3 years.  Oh, good call tangy...I listen to a bit of electronica too, especially when I'm driving.  I my stereo.

i love metal. ever since i heard its dulcet tones calling to me as a child, i ahve been drawn to it. i started with def leppard (i know, not exactly "metal", but it was a journey), then on to metallica, then pantera, then six feet under, morbid angel, and cannibal corpse (Make Then Suffer). and of course, dimmu borgir, old cradle of filth (cruelty and the beast era), slayer, emperor, arch enemy, i could go on. metal is so diverse, there is something for everyone. like that video?
lots of different electronica stuff, cascada/atb/tiesto/shpongle
I wouldn't call that 'different' electronic stuff. It's all House/Hard House/Trance. hehehe... Not that there's anything wrong with said genre's. There is some great stuff, but I wouldn't call it different - though personally I like Sasha and ATB the best.I listen to mostly electronic stuff. I have been really into IDM/Glitch and Electro/Electro-clash. Though lately I've been listing to alot of Post-rock as well (Mono, 65daysofstatic, Explosions In The Sky, Yndi Halda). I like downtempo breaks/trip-hop alot as well (Clue To Kalo). Shibuya-kei, which is a genre of alot really great japanese rock/electronic stuff (like Capsule, Cornelius, Pizzicato Five). You can check my shizzle here:http://www.last.fm/user/Dranore/If you aren't familiar with Last.fm they log all you music listening and keep charts for you and make recommendations. Great service. If I were to make broad recommendations to people - I'd say check out - I'll include the Lasf.fm artist pages, they have a few samples (albiet short ones):Boards of Canada (very mellow downtempo IDM and ambient stuff) - http://www.last.fm/music/Boards+of+Canada://http://www.last.fm/user/Dranore/I...s+of+CanadaCasino Versus Japan (also mellow downtempo and ambient stuff) - http://www.last.fm/music/Casino+Versus+JapanYagya (mostly ambient - very mellow and relaxing) - http://www.last.fm/music/YagyaManual (hard to describe almost traditional and yet ambient and downtempo) - http://www.last.fm/music/ManualSyntaks (also hard to describe - downtempo/ambient but almost like new wave) - http://www.last.fm/music/SyntaksManual & Syntaks (a colaboration of the above two artist which is better than either of their solo works - similarish to Boards of Canada) - http://www.last.fm/music/Manual%2B%2526%2BSyntaks (no samples)Clue to Kalo (don't have a good description - but he's fantastically good) - http://www.last.fm/music/Clue+to+KaloThe samples on most post rock aren't very representative cause the songs tend to be longer compositions...Mono - (Really nice post-rock from Japan - GREAT live) - The Last.fm page isn't correct because there are multiple artists with the name so some of it isn't theirs...Explosions in the Sky (also great post-rock - a bit less epic) - http://www.last.fm/music/Explosions+in+the+SkyYndi Halda (only have one single, but one of the best singles I have) - http://www.last.fm/music/Yndi+Halda (no samples)Pendulum (If you'd like to hear a really great drum and bass trio) - http://www.last.fm/music/Pendulum Patrick Wolf (Electo-clash-ish - but a bit more traditional) - http://www.last.fm/music/Patrick+WolfShibuya-kei:Pizzicato Five (downtempo with a retro feel) - http://www.last.fm/music/Pizzicato+FiveCapsule (sound has changed alot ranges from retro downtempto to really bright heavily produced stuff, most of it good) - http://www.last.fm/music/CapsuleCornelius (early on did some mediocre retro rock and then got into some amazing stuff starting with Fantasma very - ranges from apesh*t crazy to very mellow) - http://www.last.fm/music/Cornelius (samples aren't very representative)And why not....Sasha (best trance producer on the planet - his solo albums being the best - xpander and airdrawndagger are both excellent) - http://www.last.fm/music/Sasha(can't really do good 30 second samples of good trance)Hmm... that's good for now... might add more later.

Damn. I just like music. Here's the thing. I don't listen to the radio, save for stations that play older music, as they're the only ones I consistently like the songs on. I recently regained faith in modern music, but we'll get to that.Since I don't listen to the radio much, I have just about the most diverse musical taste of anyone I know. I'll give just about anything a chance, and even if it's some song that gets played on the radio every 10 minutes, I still like it, because I only hear it when I wanna hear it.That being said:Spoken word stuff, like Henry Rollins, Joe Frank, Jello Biafra (who'da thunk he was such a smart dude?) and other stuff like that. Rollins has a good thing going with his music as well, and if he'll ever quit protesting and get to making more sounds come out of my speakers, I'd like that very much.Rap I'm not so much into, although I've been known to jam Luda (the only guy who got Dirty South right), Biggie Smalls, Tupac (contradiction anyone?), Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Tech N9ne, and yes, even quite a bit of the Psychopathic Records catalog (or ICP and Twiztid, for those of you not in the know). As for metal, I like it all. Jacknife (local band that's blowing up, I used to work with the lead singer), Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth, Black Label Society, Pantera, a lil bit of Slipknot, Lacuna Coil, I like metal. Period. But more than metal, I like the classics, namely my top three: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and The Who. I can jam those forever, as well as Hendrix, the Doors, AC/DC, The Nuge...man.I'm even into the soft rock scene. Right now I'm listening to John Mayer, but I'm also digging Jack Johnson at the moment. Fiona Apples last album is playing pretty heavy in my rotation, but she's just about good music so I'll listen to her any day. Sexy voice lil vixen, man. "Criminal" was my anthem of sexual discovery in high school, just because the song sounds like sex feels. Minus the lyrics.Old country is great. Johnny Cash, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristoferson. All good stuff. I like all 3 Hanks (most just pick one), and I'm a big fan of the alt country scene, with bands like Mojo Nixon, Reverend Horton Heat, and Nashville Pussy. And now, random bands that I like that you probably won't recognize:Lousy Robot(my brothers band, but I actually listen to them for the music. They're damn good.)Spoonfed Tribe (another local band, and the guys who restored my faith in modern music...the lead singer said that was the best compliment he'd ever been paid)Cibbo MattoDeltron 3030WeenPrimusPresidents of the United States of AmericaBlack FlaggMisfitsThe Stooges (beg, borrow or steal, just get yourself a copy of "Funhouse", one of the most underrated punk records of all time)Dead KennedysJetGo Betty GoPendulumFatboy SlimChemical BrothersI'll stop here. I could list it all, but it'd take to long. Ironically, however, my friends tell me I have the pickiest taste in music ever. But I couldn't even tell you what my favorite song of the moment is. I just like surrounding myself with good music, be it of one genre or another. Sticking to one genre is for suckers, there's so much great stuff out there. Just turn off your radio and stop letting Clearchannel brainwash you into buying records with 2 good songs on them.

If only Cibo Matto had not broken up. Such great music they made. And that's two for Pendulum. hehehe...I think my girlfriend would like your brother's band. But not really my thing.(not in reference to your brother's band - just a disparent thought) I find a lot of modern and classic rock incredibly boring. Guitars and Drums can only go so far for me without really interesting instrumentation - which most popular rock decidedly doesn't have and why I like post rock so much - using rock instruments as compositional tools closer to orchestral instruments than rock. That's not to say there aren't good guitarists, but what they play are dominated by them. Usually the composition is built around them and is really basic and simple in the end result. That's not to say I don't enjoy any such music, I certainly do. But there's a lot of stuff - dare I say the majority of traditional rock - that just is incredibly boring to me now.

Give Spoonfed a try then. They're totally different from any band I've ever heard ever. In fact, to tell the truth, I would go so far as to say that their music hits an originality on par with Floyd and Zep.Here's their myspace, check it out www.myspace.com/spoonfedtribeMostly a percussion band, but the two guitar players absolutely know what they're doing. The riffs are original, the music is never the same twice, and the live shows are, in a word, phenomenal. Think Blue Man Group on acid. GREAT STUFF.
