McDarragh
Well i use BBQ charcoal at the moment brand: HOTROXIt's 100% pure charcoal- Lighting this takes longer than instant coals and a gas stove-top or small gas burner is required. It gives a nice smokey flavour though it does impair the taste of the shisha tobacco a bit. The coal burns for a long time (depending on size of the lump). So far i have found it a great alternative to buying the coals in other ways as i have much wider access to these types rather than importing/finding other brands of coals (quick lighting). As it is completely clean burning the only smell you will get is a nice clean smoky smell One thing to watch out for is that sometimes airbibblues will be inside the charcoal which can cause it to 'pop' and spit some ash around but if you use a wind protector there is no problem
