birdmankustomz
My girlfriend is allergic to honey, and I'm sure most of you know that the majority of friuty and sweet shisha (what she wants to smoke), contains honey. My question is this: Does anyone here have a honey allergy, and if so, is it triggered by smoking honey based shisha? I don't want her to end up in the hospital because of it. I'm hoping that whatever she's allergic to isn't transferred through the smoke. Thanks
magick777
I'm not sure that "the majority" of fruity and sweet shisha is made with honey. Certainly Nakhla does not list it as an ingredient (they use molasses), and nor does al-Fakher (at least in any of the flavours I have tried). You will not find it difficult to obtain brands of shisha that do not contain honey and this would be your safest bet. On your second point, I don't know much about honey allergies, but I do know that much of what is in your shisha is vaporised rather than burned, so if there's honey in your shisha, then expect micro-fine droplets of honey in your smoke. Even if you can confirm what the allergen is, you'll find it easier & cheaper to choose a brand that just doesn't contain honey in the first place. Rani
Magic pretty much covered it, but you absolutely do NOT want to mess with a honey/bee allergy. People have literally died in a couple minutes from it, and it tends to get worse over time. One reaction might be bad, and then the next reaction is worse and so on. You have to confirm that a brand absolutely does not use honey. Honey is actually cheaper than molasses, which I think is why so many manufacturers went for it. Tangiers as I recall, and again you'd want to confirm that, is still purely molasses made. It's one of the things that makes Tangiers so unique. It's not worth the risk to mess around with anything your're not certain of, so contact the manufacturer and get it in writing - at least via email. Just in case. If her allergy is bad enough she carries one of the emergency syringes things, even if the manufactures says no honey, I'd still apply some of the liquid to the usual test area (inside of the elbow) etc., and wait a couple hours to see if there's any reaction. If all your information is correct and she has no reaction, you're good to go. 'Rani
Chreees
For Tangiers, here's Eric's information: tangiers@cox.net 619-265-2225 Give him a call or shoot him an email; he'll tell you for sure if his brand has honey in it or not.

Chreees
Yeah I'm pretty sure he doesn't, but when it comes to something as serious as an allergy, you definitely want to make sure.

xopethx
as far as brands i've tried, i know that Romman and Starbuzz are purely honey-based. Al Fakher, Al Waha, and Tangiers are Molasses-based (usually you can tell by color and consistency) There are some others i have at home, but i can't recall the brand...starts with a P...it's also honey.
From a recently purchased 250g AF Two Apple, modern packaging with newish health warnings, the ingredients are listed as: tobacco, molasses, glycreen [sic], natural flavour. I have to express a degree of reservation about the reliability of this information, if they cannot manage to spell glycerine (UK) or at least glycerin (US), but that is what a pack of AF says and I have no reason to doubt it. However, I would still prefer the security of contacting the owner & manufacturer of Tangiers as recommended by others, especially given that the OP is in the USA.
