Tangiers; Mix It Or Straightup?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I was wondering about peoples' general methods and opinions when it comes to mixing Tangier's tobacco with others. Do you always smoke it straight or do you go ahead and mix it with starbuzz, Al-Fakher, Fantasia, or any other brand?

For me, it always comes down to if I'm smoking alone or with someone. I find that the bowl will last much longer being straight Tangier's, but if I'm hanging out with someone who isn't as experienced a smoker then I almost always have to mix it with something else.

When it comes to flavor, there are few Tangier's flavors that I like to smoke straight. Many times I will mix them with other Tangier's. Kashmir Cherry, Melon Blend, Cactus Fruit, Kashmir Peach, Cocoa, and Blueberry are the only ones I can smoke straight.

Finally, when it comes to mixing a bowl with another flavor do you pack it any differently? I know certain people that choose to pack their mixed bowls very lightly, but I tend to pack them the same way.

Peace,
Jonathan

I'm not an expert about mixing shisha brands at all, but I have only mixed brands in tangiers once.

I had 225 g's of cool strawberry lucid that I didn't think tasted very good, so I mixed it with 15 grams of af golden strawberry I had leftover. I didn't do all that much, pretty much tastes exactly the same.

Bottom line, tangiers is tempermental as it is, try not to ever mix it (obviously mixing tangiers in tangiers is fine). I feel like tangierds has good enough flavor to leave on it's own, anyways.

I'm still sort of a Tangiers noob, but i have several flavors now :
Red Tea, Maraschino Cherry, Melon Blend, Orange Soda, and Classic Raspberry

I have only tried the Cherry and Orange Soda so far - both straight and mixed.
Orange Soda and Rosetta Vanilla Spice was amazing. The Orange Soda by itself is still really great.
Maraschino Cherry and AF Mint was just OK - tasted straight up like a cherry cough drop.
Cherry by itself was harsh and almost unsmokeable...wasted a bunch of it :-\

I have had trouble getting the Tangiers stuff to smoke right - using a small phunnel, i seem to have better luck packing it a bit fluffier (like i would pack Starbuzz or Romman) and using a little less heat than typical...otherwise it's harsh and nasty.
I definitely acclimated the stuff...but the Raspberry smells nothing like Raspberries, just pure molasses/tobacco.

If it's harsh, the technique is wrong. I've smoked cherry when it tasted horrible, and when it tasted like I picked one staright from the jar. Different packing. WATCH VIDEOS, READ ARTICALS, STUDY TUTORIALS. You should be able to make tangiers your Doctorate disertation when you're finished.

I know it's tough to constantly hear people say that you have to change your technique, and less heat, and it's underpacked...But we all say it because we had to change it ourselves. No one gets tangiers right their very first bowl.

Proper acclimation, proper bowl, proper packing, and proper heat management. That's the requirements of tangiers. Treat her right and she will treat you the same.

I haven't tried mixing Tang yet. I'm still having issues with getting noir to handle well, and all the flavors I've tried have been rich and complex enough for my taste.

How good is the Tangiers Blueberry??? I've been looking for a good BB for awhile now.

my first bowl of tangiers noir was perfect, but i'd been lurking all the old threads on how to do it, and perhaps with a little luck, succeeded.

i dont think i'd mix tang flavors for the most part. they are already delicious on their own!

IDK I got some raspberry and it was pretty flavorless.

I thought the issue with mixing Tangiers was heat management. Tangiers takes very very little heat, less than any other brand I've heard of or tried, and it seems to me if you mixed it with something else you're either going to scorch the Tangiers or not give enough heat to whatever else is in there.... I'm not sure it would "average out" I guess is what I'm trying to say. You're essentially making a salad of shisha when you mix, not a new substance altogether. Even though their respective flavorings and liquids (glycerine, molasses, whatever's in there) might intermingle a bit... still seems like salad in my mind. No science or anything backing this, I could be totally wrong, this is just what seems to make sense to me.

you're on the right path, jordan. the tobacco and it's particular heat threshold will, for the most part, stay intact. it's better to layer than mix, putting the more heat sensitive tobacco towards the bottom of the bowl. this allows the top part to be exposed to the "direct heat" + conducted heat, while the bottom part is all conducted heat (both from the upper layer of tobacco and the bowl itself).

i never thought of doing layers. i might try something like that tonight. or i might mix PIT and kpeach tonight. could be good?

I've mixed tangiers a few times. took one of the mixes directly from one used when i got a nice session at hookah house up there. Blue Gum Ball, and SB Blue Mist mixed. that helped brek me in with tangiers. i dont mix it so much any more

i remember someone saying that (i think it was jay that did this, but i cant be sure) they mixed tang red tea and SB peach and that basically inspired eric to make tang peach iced tea. dont quote me on this story, though.

Heyo,

So recently I've noticed that mixed tangiers bowls (grinder style) have a bit of leeway when it comes to how you pack it. I mainly mix them with Starbuzz(SB) or Al Fakher(AF). I know a good number of people who tend to pack them the same way they pack SB but I tend to pack them tighter. They smoke well both ways, but I prefer mine because the smoke is thicker and heavier.

What I still haven't seen from the responses is whether people for the most part prefer Tangiers tobacco mixed with other brands or not. The methods of mixing have become pretty apparent but do you all tend to smoke it alone or not?

I do not mix Tangiers with other brands. Cannot tell you why; I just don't.

I do mix Tangiers often to make some of my favorite combos. My usual method is to pack half the phunnel with tangiers and the other half with whatever else, currently SB Tangerine and Lucid MCherry is my go-to smoke (on my last bowl of it though as I ran out of both of them this morning :( )

Just do what tastes good to you and enjoy your hookah
