What's The Purpose Of A Scalli Mod?

Recommended Posts

As I'm waiting for my Nammor hose to arrive any day now...I figured I would try and educate myself a little more. I go under the review section for bowl and see what people have to say about the Tangiers phunnel. In almost every review there is someone that talks about a scalli mod and how they can't do without them. Some say they make their own tealight mod from those candle holders. Anyways...just wanted to know what this is all about. Seems like there's always something new popping up in the world of hookah (at least for me, anyways.) lol

ya, the scalli mod takes up space in the bowl so you can pack less, but also the way it is set up allows good airflow

I believe Incubus's signature has a how to link to the tealight mod version

Are you suppose to get better flavor/smoke since your forcing more of the airflow to go through the shisha???

that was it's main function...to pull the air through the tobacco, theoretically providing more flavor. i've not noticed a difference though in flavor. the only thing that really happens is that the juice gets pulled down the spire easier. the fact that the scalli mod took up space and allowed you to use less tobacco is just a bonus.

the scalli shisha saver was designed so that you used less tobacco.

The mod was made to use less tobacco. If you pack a phunnel with Tangiers properly, you will never have a bad smoke. And if you poke the holes properly, there should never be a problem with air flow.

On that note, I know hookahJohn has a video of Eric (owner & creater of Tangiers) showing how to do it properly.

Yes check my sig. I believe it does make the flavor a bit more intense since it is forcing the air through the tobacco, but not significantly. I think it's important that I note I haven't used the tealight mod in quite some time. I'd rather just use the fully-packed bowl and throw the bottom unused portion back in the tub when I'm finished smoking.

EDIT: Damn iPhone autocorrect...

I remember the original mods, brass/copper hose caps with the edges bent. The original reason for suing one was to keep the foil from being sucked down in the center when you underpacked a phunnel. If you are packing a while bowl you don't need the mod.

I've never used the scally mod meself, however I think all these little things are just a gimmik. Yeh may be its saves shisha which I don't dispute, however I can't see the logic in how it could improve flavour? Even if the idea is there, dosent mean it can be proven. The methodolgy is simple. U don't put enough shisha, or put too many coals, ur gonna toast the shit out of your shisha.

That's not how it works at all. And how can it be a gimmick? it's pretty much free to make. And it doesn't allow better heat management or anything, it just acts as a placeholder so that you use less tobacco.

Are the mods even being sold anywhere? Always wanted to test one out, but haven't seen them in awhile now.

No. Just make a tealight mod.
