waterpipe
I am a newbie, and a very confused newbie. We don't seem to have many places here to acutually look at hookahs, but what I see mostly is the Myas. I would like to buy for myself is quality hookah through out, some different in base design, non commercial, artistic, something that smokes very well, nice to look at, not asking for much:). I don't get how you mix and match, where to find bases, stems, ... ... ... So I am most certainly open to suggestions, tips leads.... Because the more I read the more confused I get. Chreees
Moved your post here so people could focus on helping you out, and since this is YOUR introduction. Myas are very good hookahs. I've owned several. Very nice quality. The ONLY Chinese pipes you should ever consider buying. To make sure it's a legit Mya, it will have "MYA" engraved really small on the heart of the stem. Also engraved into the tray. If you do not see these engravings, do not buy it. Do not let someone tell you it is a Mya if it doesn't have these markings. They just don't know wtf they're talking about and need a good lesson or two about ethics and about different brands of hookahs. I tell you this 'cause too many times have people come onto the forum and posted pictures of their "new Mya," only for us to disappoint them when we tell them it is indeed not a Mya. Here's my advice. There's a few brands you should stick to: Mya, Khalil Mamoon, and Temsah. Can't go wrong with any of these pipes. As for vendors, these are the ones I recommend buying from: HookahCompany: www.hookahcompany.com Hookah-Shisha.com: www.hookah-shisha.com HookahJohn: www.hookahjohn.com NazarHookah: www.nazarhookah.com CrownHookahs: www.crownhookahs.com (for neat glass bowls and the such) As for shisha brands for starting out, I suggest Starbuzz, Nakhla, Tangiers Lucid, and Al Fakher. As for good coals, I suggest: -CH for quicklights (Can't spell it out due to the drug connotations, so I'll link 'em): http://hookahjohn.co...-48pc-00015.htm -Three Kings for quicklights. and -Coconaras for natural coals. -Razan coconut coals (on NazarHookah only), also natural coals. Take a look here as well: http://www.hookahfor...uide-to-hookah/ This should steer you in the right direction. waterpipe
Looked at some of your collections, sweet! Narrowing one down will be the hard decision. Looking and reading, can I buy stems separately and then add a bottom vase?
magick777
Looked at some of your collections, sweet! Narrowing one down will be the hard decision. Looking and reading, can I buy stems separately and then add a bottom vase?
Short answer is yes, of course you can - but I'll be surprised if it's more cost-effective. Most pipes come with a vase because they require one in order to function and stand upright, so unless you get a big discount on a stem because someone broke a vase, or you have a good stem because you broke a vase, it'll be cheaper and better to buy a complete pipe. You can of course swap vases later, provided they fit. Note that there are about three common sizes of vase, so don't assume that any vase fits any pipe. Also, when buying new, you tend to get a package deal on a pipe including cleaning brushes, tongs and other useful stuff - so factor that into the cost of buying a stem alone. I recently found it cheaper to spend £55 / $90 on a new pipe with all the trimmings than to upgrade my existing pipe and buy all the odds and sods. In summary, if there's a stem you like for cheap, or an antique vase you fall in love with, then yes, you can replace anything, at a price. If what you want is an easy route to a first pipe, or even a second, you'll likely do well to look at a package deal.
Chreees
Some vendors do sell stems and vases separately, but not all. HookahJohn I know sells Khalil Mamoon stems and vases separately. But Magick's right, you end up paying more than you would just buying a complete hookah. Also, check out the Trades Section on here. PLENTY of good hookahs up for grabs, and members are usually willing to throw in extra stuff for you if they have it to get you everything you need (bowl, hose, extra cleaning brushes they have lying around, etc.). waterpipe
From your collections (all) I was attracted to the Regal Hookah, concerned about pine, it is too soft for my securities. How does it smoke? Clean Up? Not sure if these questions belong here. Are the bases any good, thick? I will look at the trade sections, thanks..... waterpipe
Shakil Temsaah Argile good bad/ I found I like all brass, and am torn between the four metal km and something like Temsaah, don't really care for the bases of any. Km seems like a sure thing, but solid brass appeals to me. Any suggestions? I am only going to buy once so I really would like to make a good choice.
Chreees
Temsah Shakil would be an excellent choice!
The Jester
Something nobody asked... how much money do you plan to spend? I see you want a mofo hookah but still... if you get a expensive hookah and dont have money to buy shisha and coals later, you will end up with an expensive decoration
waterpipe
Right now I am tight for money, but I will be much better off come April, all my bills come due February. So am dying to own something now, but waiting for that mofo when I have more money and there seems to be more imports.

Chreees
For solid brass: http://www.hookahcompany.com/32_shakil_temsaah_argile_4302_prd1.htm?pSearchQueryId=48212 http://www.hookahcompany.com/dahab_alaim_temsaah_hookah_4348_prd1.htm?pSearchQueryId=48212 http://www.hookahcompany.com/brass_kamangah_khalil_mamoon_hookah_5337_prd1.htm http://hookahjohn.com/Khalil-Maamoon-Kamanja-WHEAT-HC003.htm http://hookahjohn.com/KM-Kamanja-WHEAT-Artist-Double-Heart-2076T.htm For KM Quadmetal (which I don't recommend, because I hear the black "oxidation" comes off anyway, leaving you with a fancier-looking trimetal): http://hookahjohn.com/2011KM-Quadmetal-Clear-and-Gold-2011KMQuadCG.htm
