Cloud9
I was excited after I bought Melon-blend Tangiers Noir...I went home and packed a bowl and smoked. It was pretty harsh and I know I packed it perfectly. I even went down to two coals and it was still pretty harsh. Now I'm reading up more on it and they say you have to acclimate it? Why would you do this...and how do you know when it's done "acclimating"? If you guys could fill me in it would be greatly appreciated
Tyler
You do it so the tobacco readjusts to the moisture level of the air/the "climate" (hence acCLIMATion) shock it experiences due to the way the product is made. It'll be ready when it smells less like soy sauce and more like "insert flavor you have here"

Do you just lay it out on tin foil on the kitchen counter and let it sit there for a couple hours? How long does it usually take, on average? ryno
Acclimating it is easy. It just has to sit out in the air that it's being smoked in until it smells fine. Sometimes it might take 24 hours, sometimes it might take 30 minutes. Just depends on how it smells. If you don't want to deal with acclimation, you can always smoke the Lucid line. king_lunchb0x
also noir takes way less heat then you think. Which bowl are you using? Make sure to pack it pretty damn full and try taking those 2 coals and splitting them in half before lighting for easier heat management on the bowl. Of course this is after you acclimate your tang. Since you live in Cali it shouldn't take to long to acclimate usually 4-6 hours on the first try for me. Sometimes it takes a second day of another 4hours. Good luck

[/quote] Correct. Wait....CORRECT. Ummm...right. Moving on....Tangiers needs acclimation...period. In fact, nearly all tobacco can benefit from acclimation. But, going back to Tangiers, all lines will require acclimation. And it ranges anywhere from 1 second to 1 month (or longer)...there is no set timeframe. Lucid tends to acclimate faster than Noir or F-Line, but it's not immune to humidity shock.

I find Fantasia needs it especially to burn off whatever chemicals they use in their flavorings. And if ever I'm having trouble with any tobacco, acclimating it will usually fix the problem. No matter what brand. Hell, I've ever brought Jewels around, and you know that's garbage! ''Rani

mushrat
To clarify a little, the higher the nicotine content, the greater the need for acclimation. So Nakhla, Laylina, Hookahhookah, pharohs, all the .5% nicotine tobaccos can benefit from 24 hours or so (or at least all day or night) in acclimation. The washed varieties, .05% are not AS sensitive to the humidity but it can never hurt.
