Exotica Coals

Recommended Posts

All I use, used them in my lounge as well. Quality changes every so often. Then they get "improved" back to where they were. Super dense, low ash, good heat. Owner of the company is an ass.

That help?

They used to be the bee's knees around when I joined the forum...But, they're not too shabby.

I don't like having to cut my own coals, so I prefer japs. If you're in the market for coconut coals, I'd go with Razan or Coconara's. Just buy whichever is cheaper. If CH coals are a lot cheaper than either of those two, pick those up instead.

Mush and arcane that really helped. I have used CCN but im just not a fan i feel like im ashing a fat rock and have to ash way to often. I like CH quicklights but they are more expensive then exoticas on h-s. Im looking for a cheap coal due to my lack of funds but nothing crappy like the shit QLs sold at my local smoke shop. Thanks for the response though guys. I also want to say this, since i joined the forum months ago ithink last june or july or august (im not sure and to lazy to check) I have found you all to be nothing but helpful and considerate. Sometimes sarcastic but so am I usually haha. IM using my CCNs as we speak but its my last 108 box so im gonna need more coals soon. with those coals im gonna grab some good but sheap tobacco (al waha, al fakher, and Nakhla). but once again thank you for all the help.

Stick with the plant based tobacco.

BTW, AF and Nak will treat you right.

exoticas won't be too bad...if you don't mind cutting up your coals to the right size, they should do exactly what you want.

if you don't mind japs, the chinese canary knock-offs are sufficient (and really cheap). they do have a slight taste to them when they're fully lit, but it's barely noticeable. the bigger negatives are the quality and the longevity. the coals tend to be lighter weight and density resulting it splitting and shorter burn times. but, again..they're cheap.

all in all, i think exoticas will fit the bill...just be willing to clean up a little mess to cut your coals. enjoy!

I was looking at getting some until i read this on Hookah-shisha..

I have discovered something interesting and somewhat troubling about the Exotica coals. They generate substantially more carbon monoxide than the Coco Nara coals. I recently went from using quick-light coals to using natural coals. I bought some boxes of both Exotica and Coco Nara. Both brands burned well and tasted fine to me. I wanted to see just how much longer the Coco Naras lasted than the Exoticas. So I decided to smoke just Coco Naras one week, and then just Exoticas the following week. During the week that I was smoking the Exoticas, my carbon monoxide detector went off a couple of times in my small cottage where I live. It is a CO detector that doesn't have a digital display. It simply sounds an alarm when it detects CO of 100 ppm or more. I knew that my appliances were in proper working order, so I chalked it up to a false alarm. I aired the place out just to be on the safe side, but I didn't give it much thought otherwise. But after the second time the detector went off, I decided to buy a second CO detector of a different type. I bought one that has a digital display that comes on at levels of 30 ppm or higher and will give a continuous display of the CO level. I mounted it on the wall just inside the doorway of the room where I do most of my shisha smoking. Here's the important part: I can smoke with Coco Nara coals all day long and the new digital CO detector never comes on once. But when I smoke with the Exoticas, the digital CO detector comes on within the first 10 minutes. And it starts showing CO levels in the 30s ppm. And it steadily increases up into the 60s ppm during just one smoking session with the Exoticas. I've been experimenting with this for several days now, and there is no question that the Exoticas are generating substantial amounts of CO, while the Coco Naras generate so little as to not even cause the digital display on my detector to come on at all. Needless to say, I am staying away from the Exoticas and am sticking with the Coco Naras from now on. The only thing I don't like about the Coco Naras is that they take at least twice as long as the Exoticas to heat up on my stove. And, of course, they cost more too. But it's worth it to me. I work out of my home and smoke several bowls of shisha per day, and I don't like the idea of sucking in all that CO unnecessarily. I just thought others might like to know about this.

Hmm..there have been several discussions on this but you are the first with real numbers.

Someone check me on this, but once the coals are on the hookah its not like oyu are going to be sucking down any MORE co really,. since it will be going out into the air,. And remember, ANYTHING burning will produce CO. That being said we had to install a vent system in the old Hookah Bliss from lighting all the coals we used. But this is a normal precaution. This is why they say don't use your BBQ Grill inside. :)

A real test would be lighting the coals in a container with a meter.

Oh and remember folks..you are SMOKING, and you are worried about the coals being bad for you? :D

I don't care if I get cancer, but I think CO gives me headaches. I'm kinda bummed out because I just got some exoticas but I haven't tried them out yet. Based on this, I'll probably smoke outside when I try them.

I would guess that you would get CO on the inhale because you are drawing air over the coal.
