Extensive Advertising

So I live in Canada. On the TV I was seeing non stop ads for the new movie the Eagle and from the previews it looked pretty good. But honest to god these advertisements were coming on every commercial break on multiple channels it was crazy. So the other day I went to go see this movie with a few friends, and it turned out to be total garbage. I swear I could have made it in my backyard with actors off the street. Anyways, I was just wondering what your guys thoughts were on movies being so over-hyped these days, whether or not you've had this happen with other movies and if you've seen this movie what did you think of it.

I understand you completely, and agree. Movies are WAY overhyped. They show you all the good parts in the freakin' preview! I'm tired of it and wish it would stop. But hey, they gotta make them advertising dollars...

that's what they do when they finish making the movie and realize it really isn't that good, they spam the hell outta their stuff and pay off a couple influential reviewers and BAM! people flock to see it then are overly disappointed when they walk out.

take the trailer for Dead Island for example. and if you haven't seen it, and like zombies, check it out. but the trailer is amazing/beautiful/suspenseful, and once people started seeing it, it started popping up on facebook and shows and what-not. but coming from an indie publisher, who before this specialized in kids games, i'm not expecting a whole lot.
