Coconara Coals

Recommended Posts

i got a warmer and i got the coals.
i can get them red hot, but i have a question
when i put them on the bowl - i use a vortex bowl
they dont seem to heat the shisha like the al fakher or holland brand coals do
is there a way to get a LOT of smoke with coco coals.
we've smoked SB strawberry margarita and havana energy power tobacco tonight and we cant get them smokey at all.

any help would be much appreciated, really.
Beardius.

thank you.

hmm are they red hot all the way through? If you got cocos and a burner you shouldn't be having a problem. Just quick tid bit i got some holland coals for cheap man do they suck grats on going to coco naras. might be your packing. A vortex is about the same size as a mod bowl so try using two cocos

i would try more heat. im pretty sure natty's are lower heat output coals? i could be wrong. try more heat and maybe use a wind cover. if you dont have a wind cover, like me, make one out of foil. it is kinda ghetto, but it works wonders

I use three Coco's on a Vortex for every shisha except OG Tangiers, and it works great. Make sure you put plenty of tobacco in the bowl.

Put them on the stove top, light them red hot on one side. Then flip them over and do the same to the opposite side.

thanks guys.
i think i might try the wind cover.
btw,
are KM single hoses worth 150 bucks?
Yes, but if you're strapped for money you can easily find them cheaper with a little shopping around online.

And if you're a fan of KMs, I'll recommend Temsaah and Nammor hookahs to you also. Edited by Epoch

lol wut?

No... KM hoses are in NO way worth $150. $15, yes. $150, no. Thinking maybe you made typo.

I think he means a single hose hookah, Chris.
Shit dude, sorry, I just woke up. Still, I wouldn't pay $150 for a KM hookah.

Chris! 150 dollar hoses, moving people's threads, CMON! :blum2:

But really, I do agree with Chris on this. There are plenty of KM's out there (assuming you are set on one) that run from sometimes a low of 75, but midrange would be 100-115. Just gotta shop.

more heat.

a hookah (like anything) is worth whatever you're willing to pay for it.

personally, i would NEVER pay 150 for any hookah. i don't care if it's 'worth it' because of what i would deem stupid embellishments like crystal bases or precious metal inlay etc.

i emailed KM direct in cairo and they said that a certain model i was interested in - called al lubnani (lit. the lebanese) - was $35; granted, the shipping will be pricey, but no one imports that model here.

the prices in the states are being drastically inflated because the brand loyalty on forums like this one (and others) have people going goo goo over KM's. they are great pipes, maybe the best in the market, but at the end of the day they're hookahs and maybe because i've seen first hand what they go for in a foreign market, paying more than 60 bucks makes me feel like i'm being SUPER ripped off.

in reality, a good price for these pipes that we often pay 100+ for are easily had in their countries of production for no more than $50 usd, and that's a even a stretch (I would say that most pipes could be had around the $30 area).

I can't blame the people who sell this stuff for wanting to eat and make money, but we have to remember, these pipes aren't being made by people with union jobs making minimum wage, and the pay rate in egypt (and syria ad infinitum) is rather low. my point is that the importers and retailers are making WAAAYYY more than the producers - kinda effed up, imo (it's like that scene in Sum of All Fears where the south african guy buys the israeli nuclear missile from the egyptian guy for 400 bucks, telling him that it's scrap and useless, and then selling it to the russians for 50 million).

since all the prices for KMs are about the same, i have come the conclusion that one of two things are happening:
1. EVERYONE in the US is getting their KM's from a single importer and wholesaling them to retailers at a price that would make the current price that most retailers set it at the only price that they could sell it at to make a decent profit.
or
2. price fixing. the US online retail hookah industry is small. and i'm pretty sure that there is more than one source for the KM's that make their way here. therefore, the main sellers of KMs (there really aren't that many) have come to an agreement to raise and maintain the prices of KMs (since that is the predominant brand amongst forum users) for all of their benefit. since they know that the US consumer is willing to make this sacrifice, and that there may be a limit to how many hookahs one person can buy (you can really only smoke one at a time, after all. most of us own a few, but i would say the area of about 5 is the cap for most of us.), they realize that in this "hardware" area of the industry, lower prices does not equal a justifiably greater increase in sales.

all that being said, there we are faced with 4 options:
1. submit to the cartel-like online retailers and pay the exorbitant prices for some good hookahs.
2. buy non-KMs. the prices of other hookahs are high, and it's hard to make sure that what we're buying is of good quality (which is something else that makes KM all that more appealing).
3. hold onto the KM's we do have, and not get rid of them.
4. don't smoke.

about 99% are not going to chose the last one (unless the situation becomes exponentially worse with tobacco tax increases). i would say that most of us will do the third one; those already with KM's will hold onto them and not get rid of them, since most of the ones we bought a few years ago have increased in price, in my estimates, about 25% - yes, in the last couple of years. others will buy good, quality, non-KM brands (like temsaahs and nours). the prices on these models are still high (look at HC's holiday sale, where most temsaah's were knocked down by roughly 50%). most of us, though, we'll continue to purchase from the cartel. it pains me, but in reality, most of us want the best and are willing to pay. in that system, why would they charge less when we're still willing to pay? why get less when they can get more? but here's the deal: we don't have a real choice here. the players in the market are few and generally closely knit. there's quite a bit of politics at play here. because of these forums (the three big one's that i'm thinking of - including this one - have most of the same core users active and the banned vendor lists are mostly the same) a certain group of retailers have grown to prominence - and rightfully so. Those retailers are the ones that seem to have roughly the same prices on KM's.

wow. i hope that wasn't a thread-jack. maybe i need my own thread for discussion on that topic but that's my response/rant spawned by OP's post

moral of the story with KM's is to shop around and check out all the different shops that sell them. if you look around you will find the best deals. i found my first KM on ebay from this group called caravan traders or something with the word caravan in it for around 60 bucks and the only reason i dont use it now is i got a new KM a few weeks ago. there is no reason to pay 150 for a km

A lot of people seem to like the syrians as well

As you may have learned, so much of it has to do with personal preference. Personally I really like the look of the ebony hearts, if that is what you are set on, by all means purchase it.

What more do you need to know?

Oh, and that's written on one of the stall walls in one of the bathrooms on my campus. It's been there since last year; can't believe they still haven't painted over it.

When I started smoking hookah, I only used natural coals. Now, I caved into the Coconara hype and I've got a box of 100+ coals sitting at home that I'm not completely satisfied with. I get a weird aftertaste with them... is this just me? Any advice on that?

I purchased two boxes of Coconara 108 count, and what I've noticed with my cousin, who also bought them, was that this particular batch goes dark in the middle, sort of like it turned off, i havent experienced any weird tastes, but this current batch is a little weird. Anybody else have this problem? I mean the coals are lit all the way through, I make sure of that.
