CaterpillarO
Hi guys, I live in the UK and I am coming over to New York this week. I really want to buy some Star Buzz to take back with me. Ive heard from "SOUTH SMOKE" that there are new laws restricting the sale of hookah in NYC. The representative would not tell me what these law changes were but said i would struggle to buy any in the city. Can anybody confirm whether this is true? Also does anybody know any good lounges to smoke in NYC and if the above isnt true where i can get hold of some Star Buzz to buy and take home (we only have al Fakher in the UK really) Thanks George
IainUM
i believe the change in laws made it so that in new york you cant sell (and therefor the customer cant buy) any flavored tobaccos at all, so i think they only thing you could find in new york would be like mint tobacco. if you are going to be there for a week you can order from a store and it should get to wherever yo are before you take off to go back home
bdot
I live in NY and this is how it works. Inside NYC, it is illegal to sell any flavored tobacco, this does not include mint. Therefore, if you go to the city (any of five boroughs) it will be hard for you to find anything other than mint and unflavored tobacco. It should be pretty easy for you to find AF and Nak in mint varieties, I don't know about Starbuzz. However, some shops DO still sell flavored tabacco but they do NOT keep them on their shelves, you have to either ask or the person working there will pull it out for you. This is typically how I get my Nak / AF now since the prices online can't even compare to the price in the shop. I personally had very little luck in Manhattan looking for flavored shisha. I went to about 6-7 shops and they all turned me down. However, if you go beyond Manhattan (Queens, Brooklyn, etc..) you'll have a better chance at finding something. Good luck on your search and I hope you enjoy your stay in NY. I love it here and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
Stuie
Take a quick cab ride to Jersey. Lots of stuff there. I know Indian_Villager gets stuff when he goes back home.
Tom1
I've been getting my stuff from Patterson for a few years. Fattal's bakery has some stuff like nak, but the store across the street from it has nak/af/sb. There's also Hookah Paradise in Clifton, but they have been going downhill lately, never have that much in stock. vendetta_revived
But why ban the sale of flavoured tobacco only and not the unflavoured/mint one ? :-s
Skoozle
They think it's marketing to kids. Like candy flavored tobacco. Edited March 9, 2011 by Skoozle
indian_villager
I'm confident the hookah bars are still running. My sister is in Astoria queens, and reportedly they are running strong.
bdot
I think the ban only prohibits selling flavored tobacco and hookah bars which were already up and running from before the ban, can continue to use flavored tobacco. I know for a fact that the hookah bars in NYC still have flavored tobacco, I go to Astoria probably once or twice a week.
Click
Damn. So, there are no hookah bars in NYC? I bet the politicians get to keep their cigar lounges.
