Well, I've just started buying shisha, but I have never bought Starbuzz, and now will make an effort to NEVER buy it. Thanks for the info.

Karma's a bitch, eh?

It doesn't really matter what happens to Starbuzz, though. There are at least a dozen other companies cranking out the same super-sweet, chemical tasting, hypercolored, high-dollar, crap tobacco waiting in the wings to take their place. But I'm fine with it. I don't have to smoke it. ;)

my hate for starbuzz doesnt really lie with the product itself... though it is super overpriced for nothing but juice, and i dont like the flavor i had... its all about the ethics. let fantasia or fusion and others make their tobacco and sell it. when a company has to go against universal ethics to make more money and NHT (Non-Hookah Tobacco) (hope thats not filtered..) out the competition. thats where i draw the line.. its just so wrong. they make enough damn money as is. why go out and attempt to destroy everything else?

about time they get a taste of their own medicine

I've smoked Starbuzz, its one of the only things my buddy Silencer stocks...but I won't spend the money on it, its overpriced and overrated(mainly by noobs I've noticed). And I will continue to not buy it out of principle with their business ethics

It makes perfect sense when you think about it. Quality products sell themselves. But since the bro-brands generally seem to lack in this department, they have to compensate with marketing. Now don't get me wrong, as a business owner I recognize that marketing is important, but when the marketing takes precedence over the product as what is being bought and sold, I draw the line.

In other words, if you put an Ed Hardy logo on a bag of puke, you could probably sell it. Would it be ethical? It depends on how you look at it. See, marketing is the intelligence behind capitalism - it's purely mechanical - devoid of morals, ethics, or consideration. Good marketing is built on the precise determination and exploitation of the WHO (target demographic), WHAT (desired feature set based on WHO), and HOW MUCH (maximized price-point based on WHO and WHAT). Not surprisingly, their target demographic's desired feature set is based primarily on "sex appeal"; in other words, things like quality and value are of far less importance.

Companies like this then get locked into the highly competitive world of marketing warfare where it's "kill or be killed". The only way to stay on top is for the company to establish themselves as THE STANDARD within their respective market. For instance, with hookah tobacco, vivid descriptors such as "High Quality", "Delicious", "Luxurious", "Uncomparable", etc. and aesthetically pleasing packaging are a few of the things used by marketers to convey worth and justify cost to the customer. The problem is that all of these marketing ploys are subjective, i.e. they have no meaning without context. Now, if they they've been successful in establishing themselves as the standard as I mentioned above, then they're set. But staying in power is much harder than achieving it.

This is where it gets dirty. Companies like this feel threatened by competition so they use their market power to stamp them out - usually through the filing of frivolous lawsuits. See, it's not important if they win or lose. What's important is that their competitors see them flex and get put back into their place. It's all about power and control, and within capitalism, those with the most money tend to win.

Ultimately, people tend to blame the capitalists or capitalist system when they start thinking of all the bullshit that goes on, but the reality is, capitalism is market driven. So who's really to blame? The capitolists selling us crap or the rest of us who are demanding it? For this to change, a new standard must be established based on quality rather than hype. Is this going to happen? Hell no. People are largely superficial. If something comes in a pretty package and costs a lot of money, it must be good, right? Lol...

love the rant

i find it humorous that things like tangiers are in the most basic packaging and such and have no flash nor flare to it, yet their product speaks for itself. they dont NEED to impress you, because you get people loyal to the great product by results. sure, starbuzz might smoke decently, but i think if you took a poll of all the serious hookah smokers, tangiers would come out as the best brand of tobacco for many reasons. just kinda funny, in my opinion

Well I'm glad they're getting some of their own medicine. I'm one of the few who actually like Starbuzz and there are only a few flavors that I think are worth the price. But its nice to hear they're getting sued too, since they've been trying to bully all the other companies around.

let them die. If i have to choose a chemically tobaccoo i choose social smoke. But otherwise, i don't smoke anything bar tangiers.
i agree.

between the chemical ridden tobaccos, Social Smoke is the least horrible.
