I would empty the water out every time you are done smoking. It helps keep mold from growing and keeps the stem from oxidizing. As far as the bowl tasting bad, that depends on a lot of factors, but having it sit there wont damage it.

I smoke almost exclusively apple flavors, on the weekends I pretty much keep the pipe going all day and all night. Its amazing how long coals will last when you just puff it every 5 or ten minutes or so. Of course there are times when it's completely out...Anyway, I usually just use the same water for saturday and sunday unless I switch it up to something like !NAKHLA CARDAMOM! having that in your water and then switching to esk apple doesn't work out so good.

I have some friends who don't clean/change the water for maybe weeks at a time... disgusting.

I used to clean my hookah after every use but now I clean it once a week because it is such a hassle.

I clean mine every time I use it, which just pretty much involves running it through warm water, and scrubbing the bowl with soap and rinsing it. I don't mind since I don't smoke every day, so it's not too much of a hassle. Though, I normally don't clean it until I'm about to use it, so it might sit there for 1-2, sometimes even 3 days without being cleaned or anything.

My Temsaah has a copper downstem, so it will tarnish. If I'm done smoking for the day, I empty the vase and wipe the stem, and reassemble for storage.

It takes 10 seconds to dump it, and 10 seconds to refill it. Well worth it to keep my pipe clean and functioning

Personally, I leave the water for quite a while - but, I have two very similar pipes, test them before I put a bowl on them, and grab the clean one if there's any substantial ghosting, Once that's happened, I make plans to clean both pipes within a week On balance, I probably clean the pipes once a month, after somewhere between 2 and 6 bowls each, but I am guided by whether it needs doing rather than by time. That said, I'm often surprised how filthy the water is when I do empty it out, and I will always take a clean pipe to a new tobacco, to give it a fair trial. I could see minor benefit in doing it more often, but when it gets filthy it's because I'm smoking a load of the same flavour, so I seldom bother.

I generally smoke late at night (from 11-2 usually) and most of the time I get buzzed enough to not care to clean it at that time so it stays that way all night and day till it's time to smoke again - then I change the water and run it through some hot water.

And I clean the whole damn thing with a brush and lemon juice/baking soda twice a week.

For smoking, I prefer to change the water after every session or after every bowl which ever is longer.

I have left my pipe (Stainless Steel) set up for a few weeks with the dirty water in it with no damage, I wouldn't have smoked it like that though.

I have smoked a bowl a few days after I started it and it was still good.

I clean mine before I smoke, but sometimes I leave the water in there for a few days if I'm going to smoke the same flavor again.

I try to empty the water at the end of the day, but when i am really tired, i just leave it. there was a while that i just left it for about a week, but gave the hookah a deep cleaning after that.

reviving htis after a week or so but I have found that you can keep water for a while but I HATE! to. it leaves markings in the base then they take forever to scrub out and its just not worth it.
