magick777
I have the opportunity to acquire a Mya Cosmos via eBay, probably for a lot less than they retail for here. Are they any good? I'm looking to buy a cheap pipe (second-hand is not an issue), as a house-warming gift for a couple of friends who've recently moved into their own place. Personally I like Egyptian pipes and am a bit sceptical of Mya, but am open to being convinced. Given their situation, a smallish acrylic pipe is not a bad idea and nor is a pipe that comes in (and packs back into) its own cardboard box. However, I suspect I'll be smoking it with them, so it wants to be half decent. Any thoughts? Ranging from "buy cheap second-hand Mya at any sensible price" to "could do better"? Part of me wants to buy them a 20-year-old Egyptian made brass pipe that's caught my eye... or buy myself that and give them one of my existing pipes... but, the Mya is looking attractive. Thoughts? IainUM
well mya's in general smoke very well, and in my experience are quite durable. as for the specific one, i dont know what it looks like, but i have smoked from a lot of mya acrylics at hookah bars. seems like a solid investment. how much are you paying for it? ilikemyusername
Mya acrylics are pretty much a pound it beat it smoke it pac it up beat it and pound it again pipe. No glass means no broken glass and the base screws on I believe, I could be mistaken. They smoke as good as any other mya and the solid stem is a plus. it will break down for transportation BUT and thats a big "but" I wouldn't deliberately try to smash it to show its resilience. magick777
That I don't know yet, but I'm quietly hopeful of a good deal. It's currently on eBay at a 99p start, used twice, boxed with tongs and all. There isn't much demand for used hookahs here; if someone spots it who knows what it is then I'm out of luck, but it hopefully won't appeal to the casual buyer. Retail price on that same pipe here ranges from £55 to £63; if I can confirm it's any good I'm likely to bid £20, which should be enough to deter most casual buyers (Egyptian pipes routinely go for less). Best case, I might get it for £4 if nobody wants it... Apparently it's a 58cm/23" pipe, with acrylic vase and a Mya Pro hose, so it's certainly not the lowest end of the Mya range. I think at the moment, if it goes for £10 I'm buying it, but I don't know whether I feel it's worth £10, £20, £30...

magick777
Thanks guys - that adds up to a pretty clear set of opinions. I've also shown it to the folks concerned and they like the look of it, so I think I may well jump in and bid anywhere up to about half the usual retail price. It looks like it will be ideal for what they want... I'll post back if and when I've got it...
