hookah question

Recommended Posts

ok i have finally reached a conclusion that i have a hookah problem ... about 2 years ago i was in the middle east i purchased a hookah from there it was the best hookah i ever had and it was cheap like 20 us dollars .... the smoke i got from it was unbelievable ... not choking but it filled your lungs up with thick thick smoke every time. my friends were over one night and one of them knocked it over and it broke.... 6 hookahs later i still havent found one comparable ive tried the mya qt and well .... its cute but thats about it ... the smoke that comes out of it is decent but not lung filling not thick enough just barely thick... ive tried all methods of putting more coals ... less tobacco ... airing the tobacco ... im wondering if the amount of water in the vase counts .... if you have more water and less airspace do you get less or more smoke ... also if any of you know how to make a qt or a social smoke smoke with those thick rich type of smoke feel free to comment ... .i have tried this with nakhla .. af... and havana .... please any feedback would be appreciative i just wanna experience nargila smoking again the right way .

Water level shouldn't matter when talking about smoke thickness. Just
keep the water level roughly 1" above the bottom of the stem.

Other than that, I guess different types of tobaccos/brands can
determine the thickness. Just keep trying different brands, different
coals, and the method in which you prepare the bowl. Remember, not
every brand smokes the same way as others. For example, Fakher or
Havana might smoke best with more heat because they are so gooey, while
others such as naklah/waha would smoke best with less heat, because
they tend to run dryer.

Just try different methods with different brands, and you'll soon
figure out what works best for each brand. Its a big learning process :)

Could it be that your old hookah had a wider gauge tubing in the stem and hose? Did you notice the draw being tighter on your 2nd hookah?I'm looking out for hookahs with wider tubes, I think it really makes the smoke more enjoyable. It's definitely much easier to fill your lungs, too. My Mya QT S-Class has the best draw of my hookahs. I have a Mya Bohemian as well but the stem is rather narrow. I'm on the lookout for wide tubing... the most promising model I've found so far is the Khalil Mamoun at hookahcompany.com.

really, not only does packing technique matter from brand to brand... different bowls sometimes change things up and different hookahs/brands/sizes have alot of variables that can change how something smokes... so pretty much, you just have to pick a hookah you like and reteach yourself how to smoke it with what you have :)  experimentation can get annoying, but it yields positive *most of the time* results in the end

if anyone can show me picture by picture how they pack the qt how much
water, coals, technique, coal placement, anything that you think can
help please that would be appreciated because i cant get it to be as
thick as i would like from the qt no matter what i tried .... i used af
, havanna, and nakhla ... with nakhla i used less coals with havana and
af i used more coals i also took the tobacco and spaced it out
completely... breaking it up with my fingers i use 3 kings coals ... i
dont know what else to say
you guys wanna tell me that you can get the mya qt to actually produce thick thick clouds of smoke ? ? ?
It produces as much (if not more) than my 26" Egyptian and my Taqseem Spider.  Have you tried different bowls, maybe the bowl on the one you had was what made the difference?

Different shape stem. I don't know what the other stems are like inside, but that bulge shape in the middle there is actually hollow. It's a rather spacious stem... a little hard to clean though. My stem brush bristles don't quite reach all of the inner surface of that bulge.

I bought a hookah about 4 years ago from a local store "a no-name hookah".  It was ok, no leaks. Looks very rough, but it was cheap.  My sister broke the vase trying to carry the hookah away from the living room.  I bought a replacemnt vase.  But still did not feel the same after the vase broke.  I think it was psycological.  Anyways, I found that different hoses make a huge difference when it come to smoke thikness and flavor.
