Lynear
As far as the setup for smoking Al-Amir what have you found best? usually I smoke AF by just using two coals on top with no coal covering.. is AA similar or should I use 1 coal with a cover? Thanks
MrGuy
I don't really think a cover has much of an effect unlss your in a place with some kind of air circulation (e.g. outside, next to a fan or a window)

MrGuy
aah lol. well without a cover, the coals will burn hotter (and quikcer) but i'm not sure of hte best way to smoke AA.Trial an error and then report on what you find:)
Halon
I always believed that with a cover and no wind, your coals will burn hotter. You can get almost the same thickess of smoke with one coal +wind cover as you can with two coals and no cover. TYLER
cymptom
Without a cover the coals may burn a little hotter, but the bowl is much more intensely heated with the wind cover on. All in all, more heat is applied when you use the wind cover than when you don't. In some cases, putting on the wind cover can actually cause the tobacco to start burning very quickly. I usually use it when the smoke begins thinning out -- it can sometimes postpone the need to light another coal for 10 minutes or so.
Barnzy02
when i was smoking my AA i usually used 1 1/2 to 2 pieces of the smaller 3 kings coals and the smoke was nice and thick
aronparsons
when i was smoking my AA i usually used 1 1/2 to 2 pieces of the smaller 3 kings coals and the smoke was nice and thick
That was about the right amount for me as well. After the initial 1.5 is nearly gone, don't plop another whole one on or you'll burn the AA. Add in halves after the initial coals. (If that makes any sense). skiracerj1
I;ve smoked both and in terms of setup its identical, if what your doing with the AF is working well it will at the very least be an excellent starting point, maybe a few small tweaks, but i found they smoke idenitcally
NorthEastSmoker
I've found that Al Amir seems to like (or deal with) heat better than Al Fakher. I usually start it out with 3 coal halves (golden quicklights) spaced around the edge.. once it starts to smoke up, light a 4th half and put that on once it's lit.. After that, I just keep 3 halves on there, and move them often.. super thick smoke... AA Blackberry is heaven on earth.
