Can't Decide Between Hookahs...eep!

Recommended Posts

First of all, I am sorry if this is in the wrong section! I looked for some kind of general questions thread/topic but did not find one =/ If this is in the wrong place, please forgive this little n00b and move this topic accordingly XP
I knew right from the start that I wanted a small Mya hookah. The first (and only) hookah I smoked was a Mya Bambino at a friend's house, and I was really really pleased with it. The clouds are nice and thick and I learned how to blow rings on it within a matter of minutes. I was actually thinking about getting that one until I learned that it is not compatible with the hose adapter (I want a one-hose that is compatible with the adapter.) So I looked on H-S and found some other ones I really like, but the trouble is, after reading all the reviews I could find, I now cannot decide which one would be best for me! So I was hoping to get some input from some people who know what they're doing.

Here are the ones I am considering:

Mya QT: I like this one a lot and it has a ton of positive (and NO negative) reviews on H-S, but on here a lot of people have said that the top of the base isn't always even in thickness on all sides and I'm afraid that if I get one like that my clumsiness will eventually lead to its demise =(

Mya Vento: I don't really know a lot about this one. It has no reviews on H-S (my guess is because it's new) but I did see one or two on here that were good reviews. I like the shape of it.

Mya Mono: Didn't see any reviews at all on this one. I like this one for the shape and size (well, obviou.sly the size, because I'm looking for a small one.) I can get really picky when it comes to shape though, and this is one of the few I like.

Mya Piccolo: I only have two gripes about this one, and they're purely visual. I'm not a huge fan of the frosted glass, and especially the silver decoration. I went to the Mya Saray manufacturing location in Virginia and saw some hookahs there with that silver square spiral and thought it was too gaudy. Other than that it looks like a great hookah.

Econo Mya Gelato: I like this hookah a LOT. However, the fact that it's econo worries me. I wish they had one that wasn't econo (I know they have a bigger version of this that isn't, but I wish a small regular one existed.) Quite a few people mentioned that its base is a bit off-level and this worries me...

So these are the hookahs I am considering, basically I am looking for something small and under $100 (mostly because I don't feel like waiting until I get more money because I want one SOON! Lol!) I'm a very indecisive person as you can see, and it's proving rather annoying in this case XD I wish I could just decide already. Alas. So, any suggestions regarding these hookahs would be greatly appreciated, as well as if you know of any other hookahs that fit the characteristics I am looking for, feel free to suggest those as well!

The QT is probably the way to go, they're sturdy so I wouldn't worry about knocking it over. You will probably want to get a new hose and bowl, I would suggest a washable hose (Nuhose is cheap and durable, or Nammor if you want something that looks a little nicer). A phunnel would be my bowl of choice, but you're going to want a Tangiers phunnel which I don't believe they sell at H-S. Don't forget coals, naturals all the way! Hope that helps!

I adoooore my QT. It's probably the most recommended high-quality "beginner" hookah around here. I got a couple of nammor hoses with mine.

Mya hookahs are all precision made, so they'll smoke almost exactly the same. Get whatever is best looking to you. And I wouldn't worry too much about the Econo line, because my Econo QT is excellent.

Oh, and a small Nammor hose is a great match with a little Mya.

I like the QT best, but all Mya's are machine-made and will smoke the same. So, it comes down to what you think looks best. Keep in mind that the Mono and Vento models can go up to four hoses. Pretty cool and possibly useful if you have a shitload of friends. My perfect Mya setup is a QT with Nammor hose and Tangiers phunnel bowl. But just get what you think looks best.

Well dang, I guess if it's unanimous I will probably get the QT! Thanks everyone.

I think I will go with a small nammor hose. I do wish that the small one came in turquoise as I really like the lighter blue color for the base of the QT and would have liked for it to match better with the hose.

Do you think I should get a diffuser?

If you don't plan on smoking Tangiers right off the bat, don't worry about getting a funnel bowl, an Egyptian or even a mod bowl will work well with all other tobaccos. use the money you save to go buy a walgreens burner for natural coals or a 250 of whatever tobacco you like.

On the diffuser, some people swear by them, I don't think they make any difference other than quieting it down.

Does it matter that much how you light the coals? Everyone I know just uses a lighter...

Sorry for double posting, but I couldn't find an edit button...

So on S-H this hookah comes with a complementary pack of Romman and a pack of Al Tawareg...any flavor suggestions? There are soo many to pick from... I'm leaning toward chocolate mint or kiwi blast for the former and cherry blossom, juicy peach, or sweet honey for the latter...

if its a quick light then you can use a lighter, thats what i use. If its natural coals like the Coconaras, use a electric stove with coils.

with quicklights you can light with a lighter, to use good coals (nats) you need some kind of coil burner. Walgreens carrys single coil burners that work awesome for hookah coals for $13.

Romman's greatest flavors in my opinion are Ivory Coast (really fruity explosion in your mouth) or Good Times (also pretty fruity with some mint).

I was thinking about going with fruity flavors to be safe, but then I'm also a huge fan of all things mint/chocolate so I figured it would be a fun flavor to try, and cherry blossom just sounds really interesting lol.

I have the Piccolo, but I chose it solely because it's ugly. (So ugly, it's kinda cute?)

But, I'd recommend the QT. It's stout and sturdy and smokes just fine. Just make sure you clean the stem well. The nooks and crannies somehow tend to develop a "smell".

I wasn't very satisfied with my sample of the chocolate mint. It just lacked flavor and was prettymuch just mint. The chocolate was only hinted at. Granted, I perhaps didn't set everything up right as it was the first flavor I ever packed and smoked myself, but still. Just thought I'd share my experience with it. [:

I have an unopened box of Ivory Coast. I'm thinkin of trying it tonight, actually.

Budget? QT/Nammor/Crown Micro Classic. Also, if you like mint chocolate, get a box of Nakhla Chocomint. If someone's using a lighter, they coals are probably quicklights. Get a one-burner hotplate and go natural. I did and have never looked back.

If you want a slightly taller pipe, Mya Mozza (NOT the Mozza II) is a good choice and is really easy to clean.

Thank you everyone for your input. I am going to get a QT with a sky blue base, the hose adapter, a black nammor hose (because the small doesn't come in turquoise =( and black goes with everything, right? hehhe.) I think I will keep it simple with the shisha for now and go with mango and juicy peach. Thanks again =3 I'll post pics when I get it, if anyone wants lol.
