Wow...

...first off...

What idgit picks a bowl up with coals still on it...guess he lost his tongs and resorted to chopsticks later on. Honestly...who doesn't have a second bowl for repacking?

And another thing repacking in a hot bowl, might as well just ruin that bowl on purpose.

Now I know this is just a concept but a bowl with turn knob adjustment is going to be bigger than that, much bigger, if it's going to work properly and not break over time.

Although I applaud innovation, but let's be honest this is a lazy noob bowl for people who can't pack and manage heat.

i agree with stuie. interesting concept, but the end product would have to be much bigger. just learn to manage heat, and this wont be necessary. i think it is kinda cool, but i would imagine not worth the price

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that not even then noobiest hookah noob smoking Hookah-hookah out of an Ed Hardy pipe with milk in the base is going to think that it's a good idea to try and take the bowl off with coals still on top. That's just plain common sense that even someone who's never smoked hookah before would know not to do. Who ever made this video REALLY tried to play up some difficulties.

I think it's an interesting idea due to the hot-swappable flavors. Try to consider the thermodynamic properties of both the tray and the knob used to remove the tray. You need to use materials that won't combust, won't burn human flesh (for the removal knob anyway), and won't produce toxic bi-products when mixed with heat and shisha/tobacco. My biggest concern is airflow - is the seal around the tray air-tight? Does the shape of the tray impede airflow or cause hot/cool spots?

I would consider ditching the idea of a no-foil system. Most hookah users just use foil, and see coal-trays as noobish. You want to appeal to more than just noobs. It's better to do have one really good function, than three mediocre ones.

This may or may not end up being the newest fad in hookah bowls, but I urge the creators of the design to continue developing designs. Everything can be improved - everything.

One other piece of constructive criticism: It's obvious that the "commercial" is the results of someone's hard work and dedication, but it needs to be cut down. You have to get to the point, and quickly. I would seriously consider chopping the beginning where the guy is moving the bowl with a pile of coals on top. People don't really do that (at least not more than once).

For me - if I found a high-quality bowl that allowed me to change shisha flavors in seconds (rather than remove the hot bowl, go find another bowl, pack the other bowl, foil the other bowl, poke holes in the foil, and walk back over to my hookah), I'd be willing to pay maaaaaybe up to $35 for it.

And if you have absolutely nothing to do with this design, then I've wasted a good bit of typing ;)

It is more than evident that the difficulties of smoking hookah have been over played in this video, yet it seems like a good idea to me personally.

Now I have never tried to take the bowl off with the coals on, what are the tongs and ash tray for? Neither have I had a coal burn a hole in my carpet or anything, but I don't disregard innovation without seeing it in action. May be this will be big, may be not, who knows? But if it does work well, I don't see why I wouldn't want to use one? Of course, the pricing would have to be right for me and other potential customers to even consider it.

I mean I am a noob but rarely do I overheat my shisha, but sometimes it is a hassle to change flavours when I have company over.....provided that I don't have easy access to phunnels and stuff here in India. And how many working innovations do we see in hookah community anyway?

I for one am lazy as fuck and would like it if this thing DOES work well. One flavour finishes when I have loads of people and I just have to loosen a knob and change the flavour in the dish.....I like the sound of that.

I just hope this is not another charade that seems like a good idea and end up being unrealistic and impractical.

Magic Hookah Bowl: for people who don't know how to heat manage.

No one is this much of an idiot. It's that simple. It's like the infomercials of people trying to cut tomatos, and they look like they have parkinsons. There is nothing practical about this product.

not for me. always better to have a spare bowl packed and rdy to go..when the coals on the firts one dies, swap bowls and put more coal on the stove. Don't ever really like screens.. a bitch to clean and they get the messed up after a few sessions. Like dave said they just try to exaggerate a bit.. like that blender that can make salsa in 3 seconds... all you have to do is cut everything into little pieces to fit!

1. That guy is a noob at heat management.
2. He's a fucking idiot for not taking the coals off first before removing the bowl. He deserves to get his carpet burned!
3. Who the hell tries taking the foil off while it's still hot?
4. Um... Where's his tongs?
5. Okay, so the part where he's changing out the little drawers and taking a puff of each flavor? Well, there's no way he'd be getting smoke that soon. It takes time to heat up tobacco.
6. THIS IS MEGA BOWL.... fail.

Damn, rough crowd. :)

Cool idea. I own so many hookahs at this point i'm always looking for a new toy. I can see the production being an interesting challange. How to make the tobacco safe seal air tight to the side of the bowl, the mechanism for raising and lowering the head, and for heavens sake make the holes really really small on the screen to reduce ash being sucked down into the bowl.

The video was damn well done. You have to give them that.

Keep me posted if this actually goes into production. :drinks:
