Something Wrong With My Air Valve?

Recommended Posts

So I got my Mya QT hookah delivered last night, and I just had a chance to try it out today. Everything's great, save for one thing. Something's wrong with the air valve, or the threading inside. It takes a little while to screw it on so if I don't mess with it it's fine when I smoke, but as I was cleaning it the valve fell out. I screwed it back on and checked to make sure it was secure, but then it popped right out... I don't think that's normal which is why I'm asking, do I need to get my stem replaced, since the threading in the stem seems faulty? Because I don't think it's the thread of the valve itself.

if its falling out after screwing it in then its faulty plain and simple. can you take video of it or something, becuase if you feel it screwing in and tightening, then how can it all of a sudden fall out?

Oh wow, that's crazy... yeah, looks like you'll have to get it replaced. The threading is stripped out. I'm not sure if there is a way to fix the threading or not... Someone else may know. Plumbing tape, perhaps? The kind you use for showerheads, to make them watertight?

okay, so i watched it again and it looked off, so I grabbed my QT and screwed it and unscrewed i and it looks like you're doing it backerds. I coud be wrong, there may be some swamp gas reflecting off the moon or something but...yeah.

Looks to me like that stem is a piece of shit. Maybe try to get some plumbers tape and wrap a small amount around the threads of the valve. This is what I'm talking about ---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thread_seal_tape

If she shot this with her webcam, it would have the same effect as a mirror. Your right hand would look like you left, and your left hand would look like your right. So she appears to be turning it the wrong way, but in reality she is really turning it the correct direction.

Nah I was doing it righty-tighty. I think the reason it looks opposite is because I was taking a video of myself so it's gonna be like, flipped. It doesn't screw the other way, I just tried. And it feels like it's tightening for a while and when it's tight I can pull it out really easily. I'm going down to Mya Saray in Sterling (like 20-30 mins from me) tomorrow to see if they won't replace it. I tried calling them and they said that they sell their stuff to the manufacturer so it's their responsibility or whatever but if they could replace it for me on location it's just faster and like skipping a step. I guess I could always just buy a new one from them but I just don't think I should pay cos I JUST got it you know? I only smoked it once, and the thing has been like that before I smoked too.

I don't want to spam the forum and start a new thread so I'll just ask in here...

I got the nammor hose as well, but when I stick it in it feels really loose. Is that normal? Like, if I don't mess with it it stays fine but it's not a really good tight fit. I understand it not fitting well with the adapter because that has a little screw in it to keep the ball in place, but in the regular thing? Hmm.

Are you using the silicone gasket (see link below) that came with it? If so, it should be fitting quite snugly. Try putting the gasket on the hose first, THEN put it into the hoseport. Should be tighter than doing it the other way. That's how I do all my hoses now.

Nothing came with the nammor hose except the hose and the tip. You mean the one that came with the hookah? Yeah I was using that one. I tried putting it on the hose first but it was still a bit loose. I'll play with it some more once I get my friggen' stem replaced.

try using a the grommet and a bit of damp paper towel (make sure that there is is a nice seal with the paper towel&grommet. I only have 1 mya and it fits alright with an egyptian hookah grommet (lost the ones that came with my mya) but it is also an autoseal with the screws. which size nammor did you purchase. i hear of the large nammors don't fit into the small mya's

exactly, if you slide the silicone gommet up the hose tip so that about 1/4 inch of the tip is showing and the grommet is above that it will fit nicely, it's how I do all of my hoses on my mya because it's the only way they fit but it is a nice snug fit once you get it. If that makes sense.

UPDATE: So I went to Mya Saray in Sterling with a couple of my friends and let them take a look at my base and valve. The guy said that technically I would have to do it through hookah-shisha, but I think he liked us cos he got me another valve for free with a longer thread too so it fits perfectly and stays put. He also hooked us up with a couple of free spaghetti tops XP
