Real Tangiers Vs Fake Knockoffs

Recommended Posts

How can you tell its a real tangiers vs the knockoffs? Are all tangiers have the two tone color? I ordered one called tangiers funnel bowl and when I received it looked like this picture below. I just want to make sure I didn't get ripped off from all the pictures online tangiers bowl looks two tone. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

No they aren't all two toned.

The easiest way to tell i the material that it's made from, tangiers are made from clay which has a kind of rough texture on the unpainted portion on the bottom. Knock offs are made of ceramic which is very fine and smooth.

my question is why do you care if it is Tangiers brand? Is it well built? Does it fit on your hookah? Does it have cracks or issues? Does it smoke well?

First off, since it was being sold as Tangiers I would expect to get what was advertised. Secondly, Tangiers phunnels are made from a specific blend of clay that retains heat much better than a chinese knockoff. This leads to a much better and longer lasting smoke (especially with Tangiers tobacco).

Probably the single best reason to buy a genuine Tangiers phunnel over a knockoff or, in my opinion, any other phunnel inspired bowl.

It does have a rough unpainted texture at the bottom. The color threw me off because i have not seen a one color tangier phunnel.

all very good points! i have no problem being wrong and i am on this one, thats for sure.

in response to the OP though, that looks exactly like one of mine, and although I cant garuntee that even what I have is authentic and so on, mine looks like yours and I bought it assuming its Tangiers made too (and bought from a reputable vendor). so I would say yes yours is authentic.

Its real.

The glaze has a soaked in look it it unlike the knockoffs which look painted on. Also the main reason I know its real the inner lip has a sharp edge. All knockoffs have a slightly rounded soft edge.

I think Stuie has one in the same color, now I could be wrong but I was just checking out lots of hookah reviews and in all of his reviews, he had a similar bowl on his hookahs.

Yup, thats a common color for them. Some of the blues are like that, others are more of a glossy royal blue. Like ultimate said, its known as Turbulent Indigo. Here are my Minis. One is TI and black, the other is TI I believe, though it looks a little lighter and might be considered blue or something.

Lol

Yeah it's the real deal. Kudos for knowing what's up with tangiers bowl and not trying to defend those weak chinese bowls as so many people do. Mush brought up a good point with the paint, that's kinda scary now that I think about it.
