Headed To Israel Soon....

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I am off to Israel in about a month and a half, I've seen this topic has been addressed but they were at least a year old and I'm looking for more current info, and I was wondering where the best place to buy a hookah and some shisha. From what I've seen in past thread, a good place to go is the souq in the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem, however, due to the nature of my trip I don't think I will be able to make it there. I will be in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem (primarily the Jewish Quarter and West Jerusalem), Safed (Tzfat), Tiberias, and some other places. Some specific questions I have are what kind of price range, how to spot a Chinese hookah (I would love to get something made from that part of the world, if I wanted something from China I would just buy one here), where to buy, and any other helpful advice!

Thanks everyone and I apologize for a repeat thread!

As for tobacco you should be able to find Yisraeli-made Nakhla anywhere near Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Nakhla has FDI plants in Yisrael and from what I understand and have had it's a lot wetter than what you find in the states. Pipes... Look for Syrian or Egyptian makes. Sorry

So tobacco is easy to find, if fact a lot of places you'll find it in jars and you can just scoop out how ever much you want.

Hookahs on the other hand are harder. Most of the hookah's sold in Israel are either chinese or syrian. I've seen some KMs sold in the markets of the old city, but they cost almost as much there as they do in the US.

On the bright side, you should be able to pick up a nice looking syrian hookah for about $40 if you press them hard enough.

Best places to look for a hookah are actual arab parts of the country, so look in: Yaffo, parts of the old city and Acre if you happen to end up there.

Or you can just the locals, they'll point you in the right direction.

Last thing I want to mention, at least some of the chinese hookahs there are quality made. Just make sure the stems are nice and heavy if you're looking at one of those.

It would be nice if there was more open trade between Israel and Egpyt. Imange the Khalil Mamoon hookahs that would be avilable. I have never been, but have heard that there is a good demand there for hookahs and like mentioned above they have mostly Chinese hookahs.
