Why Do Ppl Collect Hookahs ?

i see some awesome collections here and there , but seriously , only a few times we smoked outta 2-3 hookahs simulteniously - and even then , each friend brought his own pipe with him ...


besides the beauty of owning a nice collection , do you ppl actually smoke from different pipes according to mood or something like that ? am i missing something ?




p.s - ive owned like 5+ hookahs in my time , but its when the pipe getting too old or something tragic happens is when i just buy a new one , and throw away/give away the old one ...

i have more than 2 because:

i think they are beautiful pieces of art
each is unique
i like new shiney things
some have different purposes (portability, multihose)
CUZ I FKIN LOOOOVE HOOKAHS!

I have a three; which one I use is determined by how much effort I think I want to put into cleaning up after.

Apart from the reasons mentioned here, people also collect them for multiple flavours (the ones they like, but which also ghosts), so they can dedicate a setup to one particular flavour of their choice and actually let it ghost so that that (2 "that"s ha!) particular flavour is enhanced while smoking.

I wouldn't say I [i]collect[/i] hookahs. I just buy some if I really like it. I have 5 but they all have a reason and story. I think I'm set right now with the ones I have. I might get rid of one to upgrade but other than that I can't imagine have more.

I think a better question would be "Why does my aunt collect salt and pepper shakers?" seriously, she has somewhere around 300 sets.

Yep, just counted mine up for another thread too.

I mix and match stems and bases depending on what is going on and where I'm going to be smoking. At any one time I could have 4 set up and ready to smoke which is most likely to happen on New Years Eve.

I collect them for versatility. I don't want to be setting up and wishing I had a different size base or stem.

Here's the "regular pipe" angle again. With most pipes, ghosting WILL occur. Therefore, many avid pipesters will dedicate particular pipes to particular tobaccos or types. For instance, a pipe only for aeromatics, another for English styles. Corncobs are a good choice if you want to try out something new without risking adding a ghost to a more favored pipe. Another reason for having many pipes is to allow them to dry out between smokes.

Wow I have not been on in quite a while...

Anyway I have 4 of my own, mainly because I got them from friends who didn't want a particular hookah so I took em in. Also I like to have more than one because I usually like to smoke my own and when I have company they need hookahs to smoke as well. As far as ghosting, I just clean em out real well if I was smoking a strong flavor, that is mainly because I have a favorite hookah right now so I want to smoke out of it all the time.

I collected for a long time because I always found them to be a sort of art piece. Now however my hookah collection has gone from 12 to about 7 or 8 right now and I am trying to get down to a reasonable 3 hookahs.

All the pipes in my collection serve a specific purpose.

KM Pharonie- Solo smoke, or smoking with the roommate

Maya QT - Party pipe. Its not gunna get knocked over (or not as easliy) if it breaks i'm not out as much, and its 2 hose.

Leila - Long Car Trips. I know we've had this discussion on the forum before, so let me say, I will never smoke with just myself in the car. Usually we use the leila when we are driving to concerts. Our DD doesn't smoke, so we just hang out in the back and smoke.

AF Medium Solid- Ok, so this one doesn't have a specific purpose other than if i have a group of close friends over, i can set up 2 decent sized pipes so we don't have to pass as much.

KM Red 2 Pear - Lives at my house, but doesn't belong to me. Belongs to my best friend, and we smoke it when she comes by.

Originally all my hookahs had a purpose. My big multi-hose was for parties, my single big one was just for looking pretty, and my QT was my personal smoker. But then I got my two new Myas (an acrylic and a very very nice cloisonné stem one) and they both became my two main smokers. Now I keep the others just cause they look awesome Even still have the original craptacular cobra hoses I bought because "THEY LOOK SO COOL!!"
