no, i hate hookah bars that are doubled as clubs. the point of hookah is to socialize, not dance. if i cant hear my friends, why would i want to smoke hookah and sit there?

btw i agree. i used to go to this cool little restaurant. good food, decent hookah. new management turned this little restaurant, like 400 sqft place into a loud ass teen hang out. hated it. never went back.

Agreed. I smoke hookah to hang out and talk with friends. When I can't hear my friends it's pretty pointless.

Hookah is a social thing, all about relaxing with friends, and chatting the night away. I used to love Jasmines here in Dallas, put not the main Hookah Bar, I've never been in there as you couldn't hear yourself talk in there. I always went into the other building where some nice quite music was playing, and you could actually talk with your friends.

So, Never.

I am with EL.

If i can't talk, I don't come back. If there is a DJ I won't even sit down.

I usually go to Cafe Mocha near my place, and it's awesome! Very quiet and laid back ambiance with comfortable couches, good knowledgeable staff + they give you tongs if you know what you're doing. I just love to hang out there with my friends and just have a relaxing fun time.

Went to one of these nightclubs cum hookah lounges one time, ugh! was out of there before they prepared the hookah, was told by friends later on that they didn't know the first thing about how to pack a bowl.

This place called Towson Nights by my parents house has that club scene going on. Its up the street from Towson University which is flooded with kids from New Jersey. Weekends is nuts there... crazy lights, disco ball, DJ playing all the new pop songs, college kids drinking straight out of the liquor bottles and shotgunning beers, etc. My buddy and I went there one night expecting just to chill but instead we were the oldest ones there and learned that kids these days dance pelvis-to-butt instead of face-to-face. BUT on the weekends its $25 all you can smoke, free NA drinks, free hummus, until 4am. So it turns out to be a good deal. And drunk college kids generally supply a good amount of comic relief.

Weeknights on the other hand... if I go in it is usually the owners/managers/bouncer and I sitting around doing nothing. I watch Israeli TV, drink tea, read my book (they even keep the light up a little higher in my section so I can see the words... since I'm getting old and shit...), and talk about cars with the bouncer. The only thing that sucks about the weekdays is that its $15 for a bowl and $10 for an additional person... so one bowl will cost a couple $25. I think thats bullshit but if you bring your own phunnel and tangiers they will pack it for you and just charge you a small fee.

They make a lot more money on club night so I'm not surprised that a lot of places are now heading in that direction.

I hate the super loud clubby type lounges. but a new lounge opened up here about a month ago. they do have a dj every night after about 10 but before that they play very mellow musics and the service is great.

there isn't a dance floor or anything just badass big booths and chairs and coffee tables set up everywhere. very mellow before 10. Monday and Tuesdays are "smoke out days" where you pay 10 per person for all you can smoke (they offer tangiers out of funnel bowls and KMs) so needless to say, i go nearly every monday and tuesday lol. the smoke is awesome and it is usually very chill.. untill 10..

any night after ten the music is loud and hippity hoppity. I can't smoke in that kind of environment! lol

other than this joint, I really never go to lounges anyways.. too pricey for shitty service/smoke.

never...I went to a local hookah bar that had open mic night all the time...I didn't know they had it and I happened to go on that night. Never returned. I like my hookah in a quiet atmosphere with music on where you can hardly hear it so I don't have to yell to have a conversation with my friends or for a waiter to take my order(especially with them not being able to hear you and screwing up the order).

Said hookah bar just closed permanently recently

I'm REALLY surprised at everyone's comments. I have seen it grow considerable amounts through-out the UK where there is a Shisha gazebo in smoking areas enabling you to have the quiet area with a shisha to relax and get to know people you have just met in a more intimate space.

i would avoid a nightclub feeling lounge. Out here all the nightclub type lounges are getting in big trouble for letting underage people in. And from i have heard from other, especially folks who came to the lounge i worked at for a time, the cub type places have poor service.

I work at a very modern hookah lounge and it's been compared to a club because of our lights. It's brighter than a club though. We keep our music low enough for coversations but we tend to turn it up if the vibe is right. However, our hookah lounge has been preferred over competitors because it targets all ages. It just looks like a modern, sophisticated environment. We also have menus and the waitstaff treats our clients as if it were a restaurant. We tend to them consistently instead of walking off after walking off after serving the coals with blowing out the heads and etc. Most of our customers are business men who are local as opposed to teenagers.
