I'm Graduating from High School this year (June 8th) and would like to go to college for Electrical Engineering. I was wondering if there were any Engineers in the forum that have anything to say about the subject. I am either doing this, or Computer Sciences. I'll read the responses while smoking a good bowl of cheap brand X Shisha...

I did computer engineering. Same department at my school. Close enough?

Same thing pretty much. Computer Engineering is more software than hardware right? Because I want to do Electrical because I like working with circuits and the actual components of the machine. Robotics is also covered by this major and that has always been a passion for me.

Its safe to say that at least in Israel , electrical engineers have the highest salaries and best working conditions compared to any other engineering profession - once again , in Israel .

but then again , its ones of the hardest and most demanding engineering professions out there , very high level of math , physics and what not .

if i were you , i'd check what courses included in your college - and see if u find it attractive ... and compare 'em to the other options ur considering , then ull have a general idea of what ur up against .

oh , and check if computer science is a Bsc , if not - i'd lean towards degrees which are Bsc ..

good luck !

It sounds like you'd be a good fit for electrical. Although computer may actually do more with robotics depending on the school. I'd try to look for an undergraduate research opportunity doing robotics since that's what you love.
For us, electrical was generally about designing systems that used high voltage power. Computer was about designing computer hardware. Things that fell in the middle could be easily done by either. Both computer and electrical had a little software development thrown in. Computer did more stuff with embedded systems while electrical was taking courses on AC power. Computer science was what the hardcore software people went after. Our electrical and computer engineering department was one of the hardest in the school.

They actually tried to combine our ECE and CS departments to turn the degrees offered from electrical engineering, computer engineering, and computer science into electrical engineering, computer hardware engineering, and computer software engineering so that people could better specialize and there was less overlap. One of the departments had ego problems and so the whole thing fell apart and the ECE and CS departments ended up even more separate than before - current students have no courses from the other department.

Its what I do... kinda a good time lol

What was the degree of math that you had to take in school? I'm taking Pre Calculus now and that's harder than actual calc for some odd reason. Trig, Algebra, and Geometry (some calc as well) are my strong points. Is that good for the profession I'm looking for?
