grock
So I just put in an order for a decent amount of Tangiers and a Crown Glass Micro Funnel. I am curious as to how many coals I should use. I am thinking to use 2 but would like to get some input from the community. I bought this because I have heard that Tangiers is best with a funnel, and Crown seemed to make some really nice products. I have been looking at various ways to prepare the tobacco, but right now I am concerned with how many coals to use. I normally smoke through a vortex bowl, but was looking for a higher quality product. When I use the vortex bowl I use 3 whole cube coals unless it gets harsh, then I take one off and move two around the bowl. I appreciate any help or advice I can get! Thanks! -Glen
Chaz1337
What size Tangiers Phunnel did you get? I normally use 2 CCN Flats on my Small Tang Phunnel and use a windcover when the smoke dies down a bit. I would imagine that would be fine for the Crown phunnel too. I used to split CoCos into halves and would try out different amounts. Usually 3 Half coals for a small phunnel. Just play around with it and see what works best for each brand/flavor of shisha!
Plex
When packing tangiers in my Crown Micro Funnel, I cut a flat CCN into quarters and use 3 of the quarters on the bowl. I can smoke 4+ rounds with good flavor assuming acclimation, packing and heat-management are correct.

Chreees
Coconaras cut into halves works great for the Crown Micro Phunnel. Two or three halves should work great.

[/quote] ah found the other puzzling post.. simply put a windcover works just as well as another coal. instead of 3 pieces, i mean they both equal kind of the same thing..heat( I just like using 2 and a windcover cause it saves on coal)ill kept my lame ass comments to myself next time and try to be just more straight forward sorry
Plex
Are you guys using two halves of coco flats or cubes? Do you find the heat to be even enough and not too hot? Also, how tight do you pack the bowl?

Can two people not like the same method to do something? And now I will say "^This" to Stuie for the windcover comment. I too use a windcover towards the end of my session to keep the smoke up. grock
I love this forum... You all are very helpful! I wish I made this post earlier though. The idea of quartering the flat pieces sounds like a really plan. I have been buying those large boxes of CN cubes. I had the opportunity to buy the CN flats and I bought cubes again! Next time. Anyway, I'll definitely have to try the 2 half of a cube. I'll be posting my opinion once it arrives. Although I only have a small Egyptian and vortex to compare it to... :/
claytronmeans
I used to use halves until I got fed up with the coals dying so damn fast. Now I just use two whole Coco flats and it works amazingly. Throwing the whole coal on right away is a bit too much, but I just edge the coals off of the bowl when starting. With Tangiers, Fumari, and Fantasia the bowl last for two full rounds of Coconara's (hour and a half each) with flavor getting less intense around the hour mark on the second round of coals. I've yet to have a problem that wasn't fixable as far as harshness or burnt taste while using two full coals.
claytronmeans
Damn it, can't edit. I meant Tangiers Lucid. Also, the clouds that this method gets are quite ridiculous, if I do say so.
redjako
Outisde of the halves of Coco's, I use two sml 1/2 of the 1/2 pre-scarred Exoticas. Just play with it. Sometimes I use 3, but, I'm inpatient. Use 1-2 + windcover (which in my experience adds 50%, not 100% heat (a whole new coal) and you'll get 2 or so coal rounds out of it. 3 didn't work for me well
