MrGuy
I don't know, personally i'm not a business kinda guy. i do website design and development, but i have a guy that does marketing for me. maybe nuchultz could chip in or something? But it depends who your target audience are. what kind of people do you want to buy your coals and what kind of people do you think will buy your coals. Scalliwag
my market would all be "word of mouth" anyways. I'm figuring that newbies are almost always going for quicklights and about the only people using them are going to be people that regularly smoke. If someone forgets the name they can just tell them to look for the Yosemite Sam looking guy with a parrot on his shoulder smoking a hookah. Bleeding_Heart1
haha i think it would make a impression. PS. Ill be reviewing the coals soon! HAvent had time!
MrGuy
lol yeah, on second though, it would make the brand stick in mind. change the background color at least though! and possibly the font.Oh and also the smoke colour. If your coals make smoke that color, i sure as hell dont want any lol.
Scalliwag
Kinda whitish smoke maybe? Maybe no smoke by the parrot since the coals don't smoke and he is taking a hit? Skimo wanted ideas so....

Scalliwag
I guess make the smoke whiter and remove the smoke by the parrot. Maybe play with different fonts and background colors?

I'm not a graphic designer but I think it's funny You guys think a more "serious" (as in non-cartoonish) logo should be used?
Never said the logo idea was bad. Just the art itself is. The pirate at full size has bad compresion, the smoke looks like it was made by someone who might have had ps for a month, the hookah in the bg doesnt fit well, and you can tell its been cut out, and the parrot doesnt look right either, the smoke coming from him looks horid, and the coal the pirate is holding just dont look right. As i said, design would work, granted i dont like the whole pirate thing, but thats persoanl preference, i would just suggest having a graphic designer haveing a few days to make a better one based off that. Scalliwag
The pirate fits the "Scalliwag" theme. I am going to send it to our Publications dept. at work and see if any of the artists there can draw something. The parrot smoking a hookah has to stay. A hookah with a more cartoonish look would be nice.
Halon
Just finished a session with Scallis' coals.Smoked great, ashed clean, and had no taste like quicklights.I'll put up a review with pics sometime, but I'm hella busy the rest of today.TYLER

Skimo already has some coming for his work, which I like. If someone can top it I'd be happy to see it. I know Josh shouldn't take offense to any of that. This is not his profession. Anyone that can draw some original stuff willing to let me have it for coals... you bet.

Scalliwag
Cool, we have a logo competition. BTW- I also make seasonings (steak, pork, poultry, and seafood) I pretty much sell it local and it pretty much has gotten marketed word of mouth (people probably would not buy that over the net ya know?) and it does really well for some reason. Hopefully whatever characture figure that ends up on the coal will work on the seasoning. I'm not bragging but if you like Montreal Steak seasoning everybody says mine blows it away. Cooking is a whole other hobby of mine and I pretty much make everything from scratch down to the sauces, salad dressings, etc. If I would have been thinking I would have sent some seasoning out with the test batches. I make cheddar bisquits like Red Lobster except I grill those tiny salad shrimp and throw it in the batter before I make them I think most the people that show up at my house parties just come for the cooking. Sorry for the rant.We still need a subforum for all our "other" hobbies. I guess the "introduction" subforum would work for that? I have a shitload of hobbies
ghostofdavid
I love the logo. Personally, however, I admit to my biased by the mere picture of my icon. Scalliwag, we sail the hookahforum seas on pirate ships of awesome.

Halon
Alright, here goes the review:1. Hookah type -- 36" Social Smoke Oracle. Standard bowl size.2. Fumari Mint Chocolate Chip -- approx. 3 days old.3. Lighting method: propane torch. ease of lighting: my girlfriend could do it. 4. Weather -- cloudy to start, rained in the middle, sunny at the end. It's Colorado, lol.5. Noticeable mesquite smell when lighting. None while smoking.6. Coals lasted approx. 40 minutes, but I chose small ones.7. Almost no ashing or moving coal at all.8. Started smoking well about 1 minute after putting coals on. Pretty much the standard time to start a hookah.9. Took longer to light than quicklights(duh), but tasted cleaner and burned longer compared to other coals their size.10. Tested three coals. Two coals about the size of quicklights but maybe a little smaller, and a log about .6" in diameter and maybe 3/4" or 1" long.11. Foil. Check the pics, yo.12. No headache or anything atypical of a normal smoking session.13. I really like the way these coals burn clean and ash well. They last long and impart no foreign flavors on the shisha. I will have to try out the larger coals and see if they last longer. The only thing I can think of to say is to make sure you light them completely, cause if you don't you might taste some mesquite.Pics:Packed bowl and shisha.Smoking setup.Unlit coal.Lighting the coal.~25 seconds later.Lighting second coal.Smokin!Smoke density.
