peawhy831
Hello, I just bought a supposed Khalil Mamoon hookah from a local smoke shop and am curious to know if it is real or not. The first reason why I thought it might be a fake is because on the coal tray the name is spelled "Khalil Mamon" with 1 o. And when I went to go check online there seems to be 2 o's. I saw another place actually that spells it Maamoon with 2 a's. So I am just very confused and want to know if it is real or not. I have read on a couple other forums that the makers of the hookahs misspell the name all the time but I am wondering why would they interpret the name wrong regularly and not keep it consistent. Here are a few pictures of the hookah and if anybody knows I would just like to know. Any help would be cool. Thanks, Peawhy Pics: Edited June 4, 2011 by peawhy831
Chreees
Nope, you sir have a legit Khalil Mamoon hookah. Reason for the different spelling you see everywhere is because there's no direct translation from Arabic to English for it. But yeah, you have a nice KM Abanos- http://www.hookahjohn.com/KM-Abanos-2095.htm Hope you got a good deal on her and also hope you enjoy her! Treat her right and she'll treat you right for years to come. Oh, and welcome to HF!!!

There are some that are clearly their style, and a shop owner might claim it as a KM when it's not, but generally, there aren't any true ripoffs. Hookahs aren't expensive enough items to cause a real manufacturing plant to begin knock-offs. All that's a side point though. The lotus indicates as Inc said, you've got a genuine KM. And very nice too. Congratulations. 'Rani
peawhy831
Thank you for the clarification and link sir. I just think it is weird that the name is translated differently a lot when it comes from the same manufacturer! haha. And I got it for $100 flat, hope that is a good deal. The guy said it will last me forever so spend a few more bucks to get it. Another reason which I forgot to mention that I thought it was a fake was because the box he gave it to me in was just a regular cardboard box. Some other pics I've seen on the net have some writing and pictures on the box. What do you think about that? And thanks again, Peawhy
Nope, you sir have a legit Khalil Mamoon hookah. My hookah does seem to have imperfections which shows it is handmade I guess. Thanks for the clarification. The misspelling still strikes me as odd though. haha thanks again, Peawhy

And thanks again, Peawhy
They generally import them over from Egypt in Khalil Mamoon boxes, but just because he didn't give it to you in the original box doesn't mean it's fake or that you should be worried. The importer may have just put it in that box, or maybe he did. Either way, it doesn't really matter. 'Rani
i haven't seen any here. my cousin's uncle (on his other side) brought him 3 hookahs from dubai. 1 was a mya and the other 2 were very different KM knockoffs. as in, they said KM and had an attempt at making the lotus design but it was rather off. KM knockoffs are out there - they just aren't out here...they still smoked pretty well, though.
