Is The Hookah Taboo?

My parents know that I smoke, and don't mind it much. Although my mom knows that I smoke to tobacco, she hates to look at a hookah because to her it looks/ represents illegal activity. I've been back home for a month now after being away at college for 4 years, and every time I smoke she seems to be more open minded about it. My grandparents are the only one that don't know I smoke and only because I don't want to sit for 10 hours and explain it to them(One is ultra religious and thinks tobacco is evil, and the others don't speak English well) .
