Bluebeaglelover
Okay, I've creeped out on your forums long enough to know you guys are the real deal. It also dawned on me this is the place to come with my new found problem. I've been smoking hookah for roughly 3 years without problem. I've had my Mya QT for the most part of this time. I've also been using a standard Mya bowl that's deep enough to double as a swimming pool. But onto the problem, my sessions used to last between 1-3 hours and ended usually by my terms. Lately if I smoke for too long I start to feel nauseous. It only happens to me when I smoke my own hookah. I stay hydrated and eat plenty so I don't think it's that. I clean my hookah after each use but my cleaning is limited because I'm forced to smoke outside, so there is usually no soap involved. My bowl has developed a black color all inside of it too. Maybe this is the problem? P.s: I'm interested in getting another hookah, but I need suggestions that are small and portable. As stated before I smoke outdoors, so I like going to parks to change the scenery a bit. So a small, sturdy hookah would be best. Thanks in advance, BBL
Coleman
If anything I would say possibly lack of breaths between puffs. The bowl is most likely not the cause of this. honestly other then that I have no idea
antouwan
think what you have changed? it's definitely not the discoloration on the bottom of the head - my lebanese heads are BLACK and they don't give me any problems. maybe the coals you're using, that would be my bet. vendetta_revived
Yeah, what coals are you using? Not naturals I suppose since you smoke outside and can't hook up a stove or a coil burner? so if you are using QLs, then which ones? There's a big chance that it's the coals, have you been using the same ones from the beginning? I used to use QLs when I started smoking and they were fine for a while, but later on they started giving me bad bad headaches after every session, but since you can't use naturals in your situation, I'd say go for CH QLs (they are made by hookahjohn), I've never used them but have heard enough about them to know that they are the best quicklite coals out there. Another thing, check your hookah for leaks by this method - Setup your hookah without water or anything, put the bowl (empty and without foil) and hose on and everything, then cover the bowl with your palm by pressing on it tightly and try to take a pull through the hose. If there is no leak, then you shouldn't be able to take a pull at all, but if you're able to pull even when your palm is tightly covering the top of the bowl, then your hookah definitely has a leak and you will most probably have to get a new one. I'd suggest you get either the mya bambino, or mya acrylic. Both are quality portable hookahs, and the acrylic has the advantage of having an acrylic base, which is all the more useful for you since you smoke outside, and can forget about breaking the base. Hope it helped.
mushrat
Ya, its not your rig. Unless your hose is rusted and you are inhaling rust perhaps? It could be a change in the coals you are using. Something they are doing different at the manufacturer. You could be getting sick and the extended sessions are bringing that sick feeling out. OR your body could be telling you something. Try a deliberately shorter session, say an hour or 45 minutes and see how you feel. Oh and a QT is about as portable and durable as it gets. Don't change a thing. kajon
That has happened to me a few times. The things that caused it were: smoking to fast (lack of oxygen), Alfahker Pipe( I had to throw it out after 4 tries because I got nauseous every time), and smoking a long session after not smoking for a few weeks. If you are getting the nauseous feeling from one particular flavor try switching it up and shorten your sessions. Good luck.
wcpii
Make sure your coals are fully lit before smoking. This means when you blow on a coal, it glows red over all of its surface. If you smoke with a coal that's not completely lit, you are inhaling carbon monoxide, which causes the symptoms you are experiencing. There are other causes too, but this is something to keep in mind
Bluebeaglelover
Thanks for all the quick responses. I use Three kings or AF quick lights. It's just whichever is more available. I've been smoking the same 5 flavors so maybe its time for a change. I'm definitely sure there is a leak, that's why i need a new hookah. My flavor selection is kind of limited because the only 2 places around that sell hookahs and shisha(is this a correct name?) are owned by the same guy and only have starbuzz, AF, and fantasia. I guess its time to go online. Thanks for all your help.
ChicagoRSX
Lol as you will find out, shisha means glass I believe.
vendetta_revived
I see that mo' for hookah tobacco is catching up here. And you definitely do need a new pipe if there is a leak, because depending on where the leak is, you may be inhaling some smoke that's going directly from the bowl into your hose, without ever passing through the water, and that my friend is bound to make you not feel good. What Mushrat said was right actually, QT is your best bet for a portable hookah, I suggested others because I thought may be you want a new hookah for changing it up a little bit. mushrat
Not many places for a QT to leak. Have you trued the hand over the top suck air in through the hose test?
mushrat
And the sisha/moussal discussion will NOT thread jack this thread.
Chreees
The Mya bowls are unglazed on the inside, which has led to the blackness. Not much you can do about it other than get a new bowl (which I recommend a clay Egyptian bowl, I think it smokes best for a regular bowl), but really the blackness is not the issue here. As everyone has said already, it's gotta be something else that has changed- coals, tobacco, or hose. Do the leak test as Mush suggested.
