Km Or Mya?

Recommended Posts

My first day here and I been noticing a lot of you guys are into KM hookahs, are they better than Mya's? I have a Mya and that's all I pretty much know to be the best from other hookah smokers and the stores we have here pretty much offer Mya as the best brand. I'm sure you guys have discussed this before, but just to be nice to this noob...could ya essplain it to meh? How are the KM's better? Thanks :D

The KM's are handmade hookahs, they are for people who enjoy a rather traditional setup than mya, since mya are known for their modern look, so aesthetics play a major role for people buying KMs, plus they also appreciate the little flaws that handmade products bring and want that special character, the uniqueness that it brings to their setups.

I don't own a KM so I can't really comment on their performance, but they are mostly solid brass/copper made rigs and will not corrode, giving it a longer life, most KM's have a traditional chamber, enabling everything to be more airtight and what not, and also they purge awesome because of the same. Add to that the fact that they are wide gauge (wide bore stems and downstems), you get brilliant smoke quantity and density, giving you a much more satisfying sessions.

Myas are quality chinese hookahs and they are machine made, made for people who want their hookahs to be flawlessly made and want a more modern looking hookahs. I myself own a Mya QT and for me it smokes brilliantly. Most myas though rock an open/common chamber and therefore, don't purge as good as KMs. They too will last you a long time if taken care of.

So it basically comes down to what you are looking for in a hookah. Hope it helped.

VR pretty much covered everything for both sides..I will just add that the Mya's have imo just a slight draw restriction over the KM..is it that major? by no means. Do I smoke my Mya more than my KM or other brands? Yes I do :) It's mostly all about looks and what you want to pay for a reputable hookah. As the QT is a great hookah that won't break your bank and they have other smaller nice affordable hookahs as well. Most of the KMs are gonna be larger...theres a few short ones out there but not compared to MYA. I am actually looking into getting another slightly larger MYA for my collection coming up sometime. So basically both are great, just what you want in looks and price.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have a question about the Mya hookahs....the valve that holds the ball on mine is stuck it won't go to the left or the right :| have you guys had this problem? Anyway to get that sucker to loosen up? So friggin annoying I want to open it and clean it up because the stupid ball gets stuck. Right now it's soaking in a lemon juicy/vinegar solution to loosen up some build up.

I personally haven't had that Issue with mine..but I have had the bb get stuck quite a few times due to build up which is why I now have switched all my hookahs to the air soft bbs for the purge valve as to avoid the bb sticking..and it is working great. So wish I would have changed them sooner. Sorry I wasn't able to help on the actual problem though :(

I would mail you some BBs, but I dunno what I did with all of them. Ask for someone to mail you a few in an envelope. It won't cost them more than a regular postage stamp.

P.S. Are you in Glendale, AZ or Glendale, CA? I presume CA based on your username.

When I got my first Hookah I bought a MYA. Then a couple years later I regretted not knowing about KMs earlier. If I knew about KMs before I bought my MYA. I would have bought a KM. Didn't get one till recently. And I love it.

An egyptian stem is generally 3 pieces; the stem, the ball in the purge valve and the cover for the purge valve. I have a chinese stem that is 12 pieces that all thread together. Granted it is a 3 hose and if it were a one hose, it would only be 9 pieces, but that is still way more than I want to assemble and disassemble for cleaning and I worry about the threaded connections because they are essential for an air tight pipe. I also am never 100% confident that the common chamber is clean.

My egyptian pipes are simple, strong and get the job done.

This was one of my biggest motivations to pick up a nice KM. As a former plumber, I can assure you that 99% of the threads on hookahs are REALLY poorly threaded and will wear out quite easily over time with regular use....but, on the other hand, who wants to smoke the same hookah for years and years? ;) hahah. The KM's weld's are not always the best, but they are airtight and get the job done, which is all that really matters IMO. The KM's in general just have a simpler, more elegant approach that I think, functionally, is leaps and bounds above any other hookah out there.

One, I like the look of a hand made hookah way more. That really the minor details in a KM make you're hookah a one of a kind. Also the way the smoke like no other hookah. MYA makes a really good hookah, I would recommend them to anyone. But a KM is like a piece of art. I cherish my KM. :)
