Splinter
I 'm from South Africa. Here we get tobacco brands like Al Fakher, Al Ajmy, Nahla n Afzal etc. Our currency is Rands, and it costs +-20 rand per box of tobacco. To make it simpler R20 = $2.95 yeah $2.95 per box of tobacco

angekfire
Buying shisha locally in Canada (here in Ottawa, anyway), packs of 50g go for $14-$20 each, and 200g boxes go for $25-$33. Our dollar I believe is still near par with the US.
vendetta_revived
Here in India I get 50 gms of Al fakher for about a little over 1 US dollar. 250 gm boxes are not widely available and not of all the flavours they have here in 50 gms anyway, but it costs about $5, or if I buy 5 boxes of 50 gms, $6 or so. Skoozle
In Virginia (US) I get 50g for $2.50 - 3.00. 250g for $12. Sounds like you're not getting ripped off there in South Africa but I guess it depends on how much money you are making. Do you feel that $3 is expensive for 50g? Johnny_D
Not dissimilar prices in the UK. I've seen those 50g boxes going for £1.98 or about $2.35 In the UK it's tax on bloody tax. There is a very healthy black market on European imported cigarettes, and a similar on hookah tobacco. I personally witnessed a UK customs & excise raid on a popular market that sold hookah products and tobacco.

Compared to other countries it are outrageous prices. But we have to live with it. Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk

Santino
The cost of tobacco can vary wildly depending on your location. In the UK, Canada, and Australia for instance, tobacco is taxed very highly (not talking about sales tax here, tobacco excise tax, or OTP). In the States it can vary quite a bit state to state, some states have a 40% excise, whereas others (like Utah, where I live) is 86%. This is the difference between a $14 box of Al Fakher 250 v. $20 box. You have to understand that the retailers are more or less making the same amount, and the added price is the specific states tax being added it on. Here's the catch, states can not tax cross state trading, so online operations do not have to pay OTP unless they are selling to someone in the same state. Texas residents will notice that their tobacco costs are higher when ordering from H-S or Social smoke because of this. This is why some states are trying to implement a ban on cross state tobacco commerce. Utah, Washington, and I think Montana? I may be wrong. Although the laws have been passed, it's very loosely regulated and trade still continues in those states. Tobacco commerce is a mess.

[/quote] true that. really, the inter-state buying is what's still keeping me smoking. about 2 years ago, Texas passed some new tobacco tax. what did that mean for the end user? it meant that I used to be able to get a 250g box of AF for $8.87 for that same box of AF one would have to pay $26. The same goes for all the brands, across the board. So now I just buy out of state, and the failing state government gets NONE of my money. another example of how bureaucracy has the opposite effect of its intended impact. pencil-pushing dickheads.
