Man -Vs- Food

A friend of mine like to challenge each other to eating competitions. It all started back in 2009 when we went to a local steakhouse has has all you can eat prime rib on the first Friday of every month. We just went for one or two cuts of prime rib but he started talking shit, saying stuff like "Bet you can't eat another one!" When it was all said and done we each ate four 16 ounce cuts of prime rib, a side salad, a potato side (I chose french fries) and several martinis. We decided to call it a draw. He couldn't go any further, and I didn't want to sit around for another 15 minutes putting away a fifth prime rib. The next one we did was at a local HuHott restaurant. We each at four full plates of delicious Mongolian BBQ. He claimed victory simply because he ordered a side salad and had rice with each plate. The next one was at Outback Steakhouse. After the challenge we decided it was a non-event, as the quality of the food was horrible and our checks were 80 dollars each, and we ate the same amount of food. Challenge #3 was exactly one week ago at King Kong in Omaha. When we arrived he said to me "Bet you can't eat the Super Kong." The challenge was presented and accepted. Before I upload the photographs, let me tell you about King Kong. King Kong is a burger joint in Omaha with several locations in Omaha and one in Lincoln. They're well known for having large, tasty burgers as well as other selections. There are five different burgers: the Single Kong, Double Kong, Triple Kong, King Kong, and Super Kong. The King Kong has four half pound patties, and the Super Kong is identical except for the fact that it comes with onions, pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce.

The Super Kongs, with a side of fries for each. My burger is the one on the left.

Ten minutes into the challenge. My burger is about 3/4ths finished. My competitor is almost 1/2 of the way through.

15 minutes elapsed time. I finished my burger. He's only about half way through.

I finished my order. He's still working on his.

He finally threw in the towel. Elapsed time, about 25 minutes. He never even touched his fries. He's texting his supporters to tell them that he finally lost. I later commented that I've never seen such an utter and proficient defeat of a competitor before. He didn't take that very well.

Our next challenge is going to be in Council Bluffs, and it's going to be sometime in August. He said that there is a pizza place there that sells a five pound calzone. Too bad he doesn't know that calzones are one of my specialties. Wish me luck! :nyam1:

photo credits go to my friend, and his lovely wife, Shana.

ETA: A lovely African-American woman there saw what was going on and said to me, "No, don't make him eat it all! Let him take it home!"

So can we all just agree to hate on California?

I'm good with that. :)

Uh, excuse me you two, but i'm not so good with that while I'm living and cooking in California. HOWEVER, since my ancestry hails from North Carolina, and my BBQ recipes are Carolina style, I'm afraid I'm going to have to side firmly with Mush on this one. I've tried Texas BBQ on several occasions and I'm sorry, Carolina BBQ wins hands down every time.
