Mast3rShake
So, I am looking to buy a hookah because I like to smoke socially. I like to have conversations but most people need to do something to stay interested, so I would like to sit around a hookah and smoke (can't smoke 4-5 cigars in my place or it would stink and be far far too smoky). My questions are: What do you think is better to socially smoke with four people, two or four hoses? I have two couches that face one another with a small table (actually a military locker is the table) in the middle so I was thinking two may be enough to pass back and forth between partners. What would you go with? Two to pass or four so that each person has one? I also plan on smoking alone so would I have to close up the other three tubes making my life more difficult? Lastly, I have been looking at the Econo Mya Hookahs because they seem to be priced well and because I am new I don't want to spend a lot on my first purchase. However I also know that sometimes it isn't worth it to buy lesser quality and maybe I should just go for a KM double hose. What do you think? I appreciate any advice you all could give me. Thanks! (and yes, I have read the intro type articles!)
nd4snd
The only thing you should be aware of is the autoseal feature of the Mya hookahs. A KM would be splendid, only because they are really well made pipes and will smoke very well, but you will have to plug the other hose when its not in use because they do not have the autoseal feature of the Mya hookahs. While on the topic of autoseal, it is nothing more than a little ball bearing that will plug the hose port wile not in use.

Dom
In my opinion, multi-hose hookahs are a waste. Just pass the hose around. I believe it is much easier and more social that way. It takes a while before you are able to smoke from it again and the hose passing by 3 other people will give the smoker a little more time to rest between puffs. In my experience, more than one hose is a waste and you probably won't believe me until you buy one and then try to use it in a group. But if you insist on a multi-hose hookah, I suggest a 2 or 3 port Mya. Make sure the hose ports have the ball-bearing. A two or three port hookah can be used as a one hose hookah as long as the other hose ports have the ball bearing and can act as a purge valve. I would not buy a multi port hookah from any other brand because of Mya's interchangeability. If you do not go with a multi hose hookah, I would suggest a KM or a Syrian hookah. A quick search of the forums will give you all the info you need about those.
vendetta_revived
If you want a quality hookah but don't want to spend too much on it, being your first purchase and all, then I'd say go for mya QT. It's just brilliant, it smokes good and is portable and easy to clean, and since you will be keeping it on a table, it'd be perfect since it's not too tall and you will be able to see your friends and converse with them better, and it smokes very good! It also has the additional advantage of being modified into a 2 hose hookah, with an additional hose adaptor that you can separately buy. *Man! I must have suggested mya qt for the millionth time*
Bawhee
I would go with Dom on this one, me and my friends smoke together a lot and its always one hose, passing it around gives you a little while to rest between puffs and as long as someone doesnt hog it its very pleasant
Mast3rShake
Okay, so follow up question. From my cigar smoking experience I like something that has a slight resistance to it. For me and most cigar smokers I feel we don't prefer something that is just like inhaling air, we like just a slight resistance, very slight. Any hoses that are quality that would do this? Again, I don't want to feel like I have to suck hard on it (that's what she said) but something that isn't just the equivalent to breathing. Multihose myas can get up to 4 hoses 3 with ball bearings one master to purge are great for socal smoke . This way you have less chance of hose hogging there still is the situation where more than one person trys to hit at once but eventualy it wont be a problem

[/quote] First off, it goes without saying that smoking cigars is not comparable to smoking hookah. However, the regular hoses that come with the Mya hookahs is rather narrow and there is mote resistance than say, a KM or a Nammor. Even still, try letting more than one person pull smoke at the same time. It is very difficult. A weaker smoker would feel as though the air is being pulled out of his/her lungs. peaceman27
the problem about multi hose hookahs as a social activity is that more people have a hose in their mouth. i use a single hosed hookah when i have people over. it makes it so more conversation is going on, not just smoking. A narrower hose will give more resistance as will using more water in you base. I like a bit more resistance than most so I use more water than most people do. Not much more though. dizzbizz
For four people I think a two hose will be sufficient, however I prefer single hose hookahs and if I'm going to have more than two or three people over, I just bust out two hookahs and it looks cooler than a two hose. With hookah, you take a long draw directly into your lungs, while with cigars you take short puffs and only into your mouth. A small or medium nammor will work great with a Mya. With the multiple hoses, you go thru the tobacco and coals really fast. JMO, maybe I'm selfish!
