Planning Ze Honeymoon

Okay, so I figured it's time to go ahead and start planning the honeymoon. Our wedding date is set for June 16, 2012. According to my calculations, that falls on a Saturday. We plan on heading out for a week's long honeymoon the very next day if possible. The problem is where? We don't really want to go to the beach or on a tropical cruise. Here's some ideas I've come up with that seem to suit both of us:

1. Alaskan cruise.
2. California. More specifically, the Los Angeles area.
3. Las Vegas.

Alaskan cruise I think would be cool because we both would like to go up that far north for a change. It would be a nice little getaway from the summer heat of Tennessee. And I hear there's a lot of wildlife to be seen, possibly even polar bears (Brooke loves polar bears, lol). Whales are often spotted. There's many stops along the way with lots of nice places to visit and great scenery. Being in the middle of June, I think only a light jacket would be needed (Moovey correct me if I'm wrong man, haha). The only downfall my grandma told me is the cost of getting to Vancouver.

California would be great because it shouldn't be TOO bad getting there (flying), and there's tons of stuff to do in the LA area. We would visit Paramount, Universal, Sony, Warner, and Disneyland for sure. Visiting the studios would be great, as we're both in TV Production and love movies. And Disneyland is great because I've always wanted to go on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride! Haha. For right now, that's all I have really for stuff to do in LA. Of course we'll hit up the nice restaurants and shopping and whatnot.

Las Vega is good because lodging and food are relatively cheap. Cheap because the casinos want to get you in and gamble, haha. And there's TONS of shows and things to see and do. One downfall of Vegas is I've already been, but doesn't mean I wouldn't mind going again! Brooke commented that her concern about Vegas is that it doesn't seem very romantic.

So what do you guys think? New place suggestions are welcome, and also if you know of anything to do in the above mentioned places, let me know!

Alaskan Cruise

Don't plan a whole lot.

Seriously, you shouldn't have much energy to do a whole lot. I don't think we got further than 3 blocks from our hotel in Cancun on ours.

Ha! I guess it didn't really matter that you went to Cancun, huh?

We won't plan a whole lot as I want it to be a relaxing trip and not too busy, but we'd like to do a few things within the week while we're there.

Also, with California, we can see how we like it, as we're thinking about perhaps moving there someday for our careers.

I would say for a Honeymoon, the California trip would be nice. But, I'm not an outdoors-y person. Also, Disneyland is pretty "romantical" and would probably make for a good annual trip.

For a plain ol' vacation, I'd say Alaska...there just seems to be a lot to see/do that is out of the norm.

Thanks, Jay. I think I need to talk with Brooke and weigh the pros and cons of each. See which she likes best, because to be honest, I wanna do both!

OK, heres what you do. Take her to the CLOSEST Dairy Queen, Tell her she can get whatever she wants. Eat your shit, then go back and bump uglies until you both vomit ice cream upon each other. That's a bond you cant get any other way, trust me.

la would be nice disnyland is awesome but i would go with the alaska cruse more honymoon material in my opinion
[/quote]

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Seems like she'd appreciate the Alaskan cruise a bit more. Like Jay, neither of us are very outdoors-y, but I still think the Alaskan cruise would be more memorable for a honeymoon. I still want to take the Cali trip, though, and I'm sure she will too.

My grandparents went on an Alaskan cruise a couple years ago and loved it, said it was really gorgeous. It's a little outside the norm, too, which I think is pretty cool. And agreed on the point of it being nice to escape the heat for a little while.

LA would be cool too, especially since you guys are both into movies and there's obviously a lot to do there, but my vote is still for the cruise. I think it'd be a good mix of relaxation and sightseeing/doing stuff, whereas I feel if you went to LA it'd be a lot more running around and trying to take in as much as possible, y'know?

Edit: Ray's suggestion of Cape Cod isn't bad either -- summers in New England are gorgeous. Check out Newport, RI too... very pretty. The Kennedys and Vanderbilts liked to hang out there for a reason. Lots of little shops, restaurants, museums, mansion tours etc. as well as a nice beach. Plenty of cute bed and breakfasts to be found here as well.

Those are three very different trips. Vegas is more of a fast paced environment, the Alaskan cruise is more relaxing/ intimate, and California would be somewhere in the middle.
I would go with 1) Cruise 2) Cali 3) Vegas

p.s. Vegas would be good for a bachelor party

Geography fail?

Yes, you can see Russia from Alaska.

Greenland sucks so bad no one wants to see it if they have a choice.

Alaska would be first choice, Cali last-would rather be shot out of a cannon... arse first into a field full of beartraps

Dang, you hate Cali that much? I loved it when I went out there when I was 14. Just not sure I'd want to live there, as things are quite pricey.

I know, haha. But let's keep it realistic- we're on a budget. I'm also looking for a new job right now so I can save up more money to fund this whole shindig. Going to start looking at production companies to see if maybe I can get hired.

Also guys, now a Caribbean cruise is a possibility. She wants the Disney cruise (which I must admit, they're quite enjoyable, I went on one when I was 10, and it'd be enjoyable for even a honeymoon couple I think), but the rate is close to $4,000 for one with a balcony (gotta have a balcony). The cheaper Caribbean cruise alternative would be Carnival, which I went on also and found to be just as enjoyable. I think Brooke just finds Disney's website more appealing, haha. Which I admit, it does. You go to Carnival's and it looks like a damn Expedia website, lol. Anyway, Carnival's rate for a room with a balcony is right around under $2,000. So we're seriously looking at this as an option now, as it just seems more fun than the Alaskan cruise. Haha.

We went to New Orleans. We stayed right on Bourbon Street at the Jean Lafitte Guest House, which was amazing if you are into small, period guest houses. We didn't really plan anything and we walked everywhere we went. During the day we hit the Riverwalk, Aquarium/IMAX, Cafe du Monde for breakfast, and some of the museums in town. At night we of course hit Bourbon St, drank, smoke cigars and had a good time. We didn't hit any of the bars/clubs too hard as we aren't giant party people, but it was loads of fun. We walked down to some really nice restaurants and were taken care of. If you want to do some planning in advance there is so much more to do, mini steamboat cruises, etc. We plan to go back some day as a vacation.

As for budget, let's see, this was last March right after Mardi Gras. We stayed two nights on the Quarter and drove back(we live in TX), stopping at Baton Rouge and Lafayette for museums/interesting places. It cost us a little over 2k. Edited by nkfm

HA!!!! I've been to Venice twice, im not sure how long its been since youve been there. The first time I went was when I was 13 or 14, the 2nd time was when I was 18 or 19 and the difference was astonishing. It used to be a cool art scene with amazing street performers, huge jacked guys, unique shops, and a great vibe. Now its a run down dead head scene with 0 unique art and shops, burnt out street performers and other shops. The whole place is now souvenir T shirts and other things. huge jacked guys are still there though, but I was sad when I went back the 2nd time.
