Meduse - The Last Word

Recommended Posts

So, there has been a bit more talk as of a recent about Meduse Design hookah's. I sent an email asking for pricing and got some information back, including links to catalogs that have pricing (in Euro's). In the catalogs, under dual and triple hose (duality and trinity) models it mentions "classic+comfort", what this means is that it comes with the necessary adapters to turn a dual or triple hose into a single hose pipe. Comfort is when the hoses are all being uses, classic is when only one is being used.

The Sepia Collection

The Craft Collection

The Portable Collection - Stupid

The Sepia Collection is the "budget" (lol) priced hookah's they make, and The Craft Collection is their premium line. Something of note about their hookah's is that all of the models in The Craft Collection use the same "head" (even the Grande models) and all of the models in The Sepia Collection use the same "head". What I effectively mean by "head" is "hookah". The bases of them are all that changes throughout each collection, so the lowest end hookah in The Craft Collection is the exact same hookah as the highest end hookah in The Craft Collection, just with a different style/size of base. In the case of the Mirage and Mirage Grande, the giant water filled base is a bit misleading...the smoke never actually travels through there, it only goes through the hookah sitting atop that. The Mirage Grande weighs about 35kg when full, and I'm guessing most of that weight is just deadweight water that's only real function is making the base heavier/more stable....which could be a really nice plus for a tall glass hookah. Being that the smoke never travels through there, you would not have to clean the main base nearly as often as the hookah itself.

Of note: All of their hoses are silicone tubing wrapped with braided stainless steel. From a few reviews I've learned that they are a little bit stiff, but nothing over the top and nothing that is unexpected from braided stainless steel. I'll take durability and longevity over flexibility any day. All of the fittings that are not glass on these hookahs are made of stainless steel. ALL of their glass is bohemian.

They offer two types of heads (bowls) for their hookah's. - The classic Lebanese head (for 7-10g of tobacco) and the Egyptian big head (for 20-25g of tobacco). They have upper and lower stainless steel screens that are placed into the bowl (this is actually a really nice, makes cleaning out the glass bowls much easier). Based on the design of the screens, and how people review these things, I think it's pretty safe to say that you wouldn't need to worry about tinfoil ever again. Probably of concern to most of us, they don't make a funnel bowl. So, smoking Tangiers would either require a mod to the bowl, or some ingenuity in getting your existing funnel onto those stems.

Here is a universal user guide for the The Sepia Collection. - From what I can tell, the stems push into the bottom of the head (bowl), and seal with silicone rings. Also, it seems that all connections are silicone sealed push connections. This is probably good for longevity, as seals can be replaced, but worn threads can not.

They ship to North America with DHL for 175 EUR (2-3 days) or regular post for 85 EUR (10-14 days). They have a 2-3 day processing time for stuff that's in stock. Payment to them can be done by bank transfer or Western Union money transfer.

Hopefully that will answer any questions one might have about Meduse Design hookah's.

For the record: No, I am not affiliated in any way, shape or form with Meduse Design (or any other hookah company, for that matter), I'm just interested in getting the facts straight and hopefully shining a bit more light onto a topic that seems, by most, to be shrouded in mystery.

Very informative... but $250 or $123 for shipping options?!?!?!?!. Seriously I love these things, but not until I win the lottery will I own one.

Holy crap, those are some sexy hookah's! But damn, way too much on cost. I'd say give it time, I'm sure other companies will start making similar designs that are way more affordable....I hope.

Whoever wins the lottery is going to buy one for each of the regulars on HF, right? :)

Agreed, those shipping rates are ridiculous...then again, when you're paying, at the very least, 5x as much for a hookah, the shipping probably isn't even going to be that big of a concern.

There are a few people around the forums who are working on different hookah designs made from glass, but currently, they are just not on the same level as the Meduse stuff, being that it's all hand blown bohemian glass and has custom fittings designed specifically for those hookahs. That being said, I really would like to see more people trying their hands at this.

Thanks for the elusive info on these!

Not a problem :) I was a bit frustrated by how people go nuts every time they are mentioned, yet nobody seemed to know anything about them.

damn, I want one of these. I think I will start saving up and make it a christmas present to myself. Looking at the coralica in the sepia collection. It looks like the second hose can come off? So you can do single hose when alone? Edited by squidget

I'm actually not sure about the sepia collection, as there is no mention of the "classic+comfort" like there is in the other catalog. It seems those ones might be limited, to whichever package you buy, but i'm not sure, the two hose may still have a "valve" in it so that you can smoke out of one hose when it's just you smoking.

Hiya, actually I own one of those and know a lot about whole portfolio, so in case of any questions, let me know.
The information mentioned in the topic are quite all right, though one is a bit misleading. When it comes to no. of hoses, the Sepia collection can be mono or duality. It means you can buy it just with two hoses or one hose (actually I am missing the point in buying it mono, cos you can anytime change the two hoses option in single hose). In both cases you get the corpus w 2 holes. In mono option you use one hole fore hose and the second for check valve, in duality each are plugged with the hoses - obviously, so you can change it easily within few sec. The Craft collection is a bit more complicated even though the mono and duality works the same way as the Sepia does. The difference is that Craft can be also in trinity option. That means, it comes with corpus, which has three holes in it and you can make it three, two or even one hose, easily just by using some plugs and valves.
Now, lets clear up the meanings of the words Classic and Comfort. They differ in one simple way. Unlike Classic, comfort has the check valves which means you don't have to hold the end of your hose while someone else is smoking. So it is far more comfortable. And once again, it make no sens to me, why on earth would anyone buy the classic version.
Anyway, those hookah's are bit pricey, but gorgeous and for me definitely worthy.

Cheers fellaz

Thanks man. If you get the duality does it come with both hoses and the check valve? (so you can swap when necessary). Second, which one of these beasts do you have?

They are beautiful of course. But even if I'd have that kind of money to blow on hookah stuff, I'd rather get a KM, a sweet syrian rig on a boho, and a sexy elmas for me. Oh, and shit loads of baccy too! But hey, that's just me! :)

This. I totally agree with you.

Yup, it comes with both hoses and the check valve. You can easily switch between :-) I have the Sepia Cascada duality green.

Have a look on my review: http://www.hookahforum.com/topic/42015-meduse-design-shisha-review/page__gopid__515771#entry515771

I don't care for them myself. Sure, they're cool I guess but they just don't do it for me.
Pretty much this. They're very...modern, I guess. But honestly, I think the more traditional rigs are much more beautiful. If I was looking at getting an all glass hookah, I can pretty much guarantee that it'd be a Crown hookah.

I just purchased the sepia caligra duality light .. it will arrive in one week ... Grand total for the pipe 2 hoses and large and small bowls ......$1425.70 shipped to ashland Oregon ... Absolutely absurd its literally one months pay for me ... Probably a stupid move ... But damnit if I can't say I'm more excited than I've ever been for a package to arrive .. I anticipate rather Aggresive lung cancer to induce in roughly 3.5 months at the rate I'm going to consume tobacco through this thing to justify such a vulgar extravagance ... I desperately wanted the mirage you know the one on the site with the flipping fish swimming in the bottom? until I found the price for the trinity to be near $4000 ?!! For the love of god really?! It had better be carved by michelangelo himself out of a single flawless 50000 carat diamond harvested from the core of Jupiter's ice moon Europa for god sake... Anyways when I get my second rate meduse i will most assuredly post a thorough review with pictures and the like ... So help me if I can't taste the residue of the fly that carted on the tobacco leaves just prior to their harvest I cannot be held accountable for the history that will inevitably ensue shortly there-after ... Wish me luck

Best regards to all , Blake
