chrisaldah
Well I just bought an OG trimetal from Hookahjohn and I'm loving it. The draw is so nice compared to my old hookah. I'm planning on getting a phunnel bowl, nammor hose, and some tangiers shisha, but that will be a while since I just bought this. I'll be lurking these forums now haha. I was just wondering if it's important to get the downstem all the way into the vase? The rubber piece makes it hard to push the stem flush with the vase top and I didn't want to use too much force and snap something. Right now it's about half way down, but it doesn't seem to be messing with the draw of smoke at all.
Chreees
Nice, welcome to the club! Glad to see the OG making a comeback. That's weird that John didn't check the fit with your stem-to-vase gasket. I thought he checked them all before shipping out. As long as it's airtight though it doesn't matter if it's all the way in there. But it should go all the way in. Maybe email him and see if he'll take care of it? I'm sure he will; he is one of the hookah vendors with the best customer service. Oh, make sure you get a real Tangiers phunnel from HJ, HC, or UH. The Chinese knockoffs are no bueno. As for the Tangiers shisha and Nammor hose, you'll love them.
chrisaldah
I saw the OG's on a thread on here and I just loved the old style look and the KM handmade look too. You can just tell all the hardwork that has gone into the making of it. Also about the rubber piece. I just emailed him, but I've gotten it about halfway with using the most comfortable force I would like to use on the downstem. A little more seems like I would break something. chrisaldah
Okay so I did a little experimenting and I got it to go flush. Takes a bit of work than I would like, but I guess it's because it's new and needs a little wear into the rubber before it becomes easier lol
Chreees
Another tip... wet your hand with water and and rub the water onto the gasket before you stick it in the vase. This will reduce the friction and allow it to go in easier. The gaskets John uses are great; probably the best I've ever seen. Hookahcompany's too. I have to use a Syrian style gasket now because I have a Syrian vase with a smaller opening, so the gasket I got from HC long ago won't work anymore. But yeah, just wet that sucker and she should fit better. Sounds like John probably won't need to replace it after all.

I'll post a pic when I get a chance. My base is just a little less fancy and they do the old school cotton wrapping here, no rubber. If it is not affecting the seal in anyway, it's not a bad thing but you might find your whole pipe is a little less stable. IF you can't find a new grommet, maybe you can trim it a little?

Just be careful the first few times taking it back apart, it just just need to loosen up a little.
