Hookah + Music

Recommended Posts

I know people have posted what music they listen to while smoking, but does anyone else smoke hookah and listen to upbeat music before they go out? I personally love Hookah with some WOMP dubstep

Melodic metal is the music of choice. I plug in a new album, and listen to it from start to finish.

Since I usually smoke as a social thing, I usually listen to rock or hip-hop, or funny stuff like The Lonely Island.

Though I do like the ambiance that lebanese music brings to the experience, I only ever listen to it when at a hookah bar.

I usually opt for some of the more mellow songs by Afro Celt Sound System ("All Remains" is a good one), Azam Ali, Morcheeba, Thievery Corporation, and Don Omar ft. Plan B - "Hookah" when I'm feeling silly. X) One of these things is not like the others...lol

Put on some good jazz and you're set. Hear me out here: First of all, I'm a jazz musician anyway, so I love listening to the stuff on my own, but you'd be surprised how many people you'll smoke with who will look up and say, "Dude...I'm totally diggin' the jazz, I didn't know anyone else listened to this!" If you get some good stuff, it's generally a hit, just keep in mind the company you are with. I'd recommend Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard, or anything "hard-bop." Later big band is good too, ie Buddy Rich, Count Basie, Thad Jones. If you want something more upbeat or "versatile" with the modern cohort, hit up some fusion, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Chuck Mangione or, my favorite, Maynard Ferguson. Do some exploring, and you'll never smoke without jazz again...

I actually listen to a pretty wide variety of music when smoking hookah. Recently I've found myself listening to some trip-hop and dubstep. But, in the past I have listened more to things along the lines of The Kooks, The Wombats, Vampire Weekend, etc...
