Suggestions For New Hookah

Recommended Posts

Greetings all,

I'm in the market for a new hookah and I'd love some suggestions on which brand/make to go with. I'm looking to spend upwards of $250 on the hookah, the taller the better. One hose or two is acceptable.

"The Vulcan" from Sahara Smoke looks right up my alley, but I've seen conflicting reviews on the quality. I'm also considering some of the taller Khalil Mamoon single hose ones.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

All good advice there. There are also some nice syrian hookahs at Hookahjohn.com right now...do check them out. If anything I'd like to change about the advice above is to tell you to stay away from vortex bowls and get tang phunnel/HJ Alien mini phunnel/Crown phunnels. Those bowls really perform brilliantly and you will not regret your purchase even the slightest.

Oh and yes...If you're not too adamant on getting a multiple hose, I'd say don't and rather get a nice, solid single hoser hookah. I feel the single hose ones outperform the multi hosers, but that is a personal preference. :)

Happy smoking.

I've had multi-hose in the past but even in large groups never taken advantage of it. I had a 26"-30" rotating base two-hose hookah and we just kept one of the hose ports covered with saran wrap :(

I've always only had the default clay bowl that came with hookahs, the vortex looks really nice, but having never experimented would be interested to try new.

Also, how many of the coco nara natural coals are used for heating one bowl vs. those quick-light ones? Only ever used three kings but the taste is a turn off, and sometimes they burn the shisha.

I believe most people use anywhere from 2 to 3 depending the bowl they are using and the tobacco they are smoking. They are far superior to quicklites though...no bad taste...no bad smell, and no headaches from smoking all that chemical goodness. :)

You can get a vortex bowl if you want to, but I'd still say DON'T! Vortex was a design prototype that Eric (the maker of Tangiers tobacco and tangiers phunnel bowls) made and discarded since it was impractical and not as good as his phunnel bowls.

Now I've never used a vortex, but because the inventor himself discarded the idea, my common sense tells me to stay away from it.

Fair enough. That's some sound reasoning to me ;)

The obelisk looks really nice, my only wish is that it was taller.

http://www.hookah-shisha.com/p-1732-mya-colossus-1-hose-hookah.html looks _very nice_, especially since it comes with a travel case... but the reviews of it leaning to one side are somewhat of a turn-off.

I've got a windcover from another hookah kit, oddly enough.

Having trouble deciding vortex vs. phunnel... the discription on H-S makes it sound like the vortex supercedes the phunnel and is better. I do think I'll be going with the colossus, a nammor hose, a bowl of some sort, and some orange cream shisha to break it in :).

...well shoot, that's no good. And now I understand what vendetta meant by "and get tang phunnel/HJ Alien mini phunnel/Crown phunnels".

I was hoping to order everything from the same supplier, but I don't see the Mya Colossus with any other distributors. Perhaps I'll keep on looking for something else that catches the eye.

If I wanted to spend that much I would buy the tall tri metal km. And then spend the rest on bowls, hose and baccy. The tall tri metal is 38in. And though I've never smoked out of it I'm sure it smokes like a dream.
