srawas89
Hey everyone its been a long time since I have visited the forums, I hope everyone has been doing well. Anyway so recently I was cleaning my hookah and my vase was upside down to let it dry after I washed it out, it kinda tipped over and rolled off the counter....My heart sank as I watched it roll and I was too far away to do anything . Anyway I need a new base and I was also rummaging through my hookah parts and came across a base my friend gave me a while back, it can work for one of the extra stems I have but it is REALLY dirty, I mean god knows what has grown in it over the years, i tried to scrub the crap out but the vase brush just wont reach as it is on curve of the "bell" of the base. My first question is what can I use to leave in the base that will break up the crap that is stuck to it so it will actually end of up clean, I think I need something heavy duty as it looks like the stuff has been in the base for a minimum 4-5 months. Also I was matching stems and bases that I own and I was able to match a stem to a base I had lying around but the problem is that the down stem ends up really close to the bottom, I do not know what to do as far as the water level so any advice on that would be greatly appreciated. and one more question, while i am ordering a base online I have decided to finally take the plunge and buy some Tangiers lucid, I was thinking Mixed fruit Indian summer but I am not sure yet, any advice on flavors that are light and good for the summer time? Anyways thanks a bunch for your all's help, I think I may stick around for a while and actually become active again now that my life has calmed down a bit haha. Epoch
Cleaning stuff - Hot water, CLR, vinegar, dish soap are all decent choices. I used that Hookah Bling cleaner stuff from H-S once, and it worked great, but it's rather expensive. About your vase and downstem issue - you could saw a few inches off the downstem if you're really set on matching it with that vase.
cotsi95
Use rock salt and water to "scrub" the bottom of the base just pour a little rock salt in and a little water and swirl. After that just wash with soap and water. As for the down stem it will be fine as long as it doesnt touch. Just go 1-2 in above the bottom of the downstem. antouwan
i had an instance where i wanted to match my km tri with a size 26 mini jumbo base. the length of the downstem actually wouldn't allow me to put the hub of the hookah all the way in the glass. what i did was cut a section off. i made a cut, about 2.5" above the bottom of the downstem so that there was just a cut tube. then, i cut another 2 or 3 inches off of the "new downstem." then i got a piece of copper that was slightly wider then the existing pieces, cut it to the new length that i wanted the final downstem to be, fitted both sides of the downstem in there, and got some weld stuff to put it all together. the final result: a hookah that fits my base perfectly, and looks like the downstem is copper (thus continuing the trimetal motif) but you could easily accomplish this with brass, or stainless or whatever you wanted. you'll need a pipe cutter (about $15) and a deburring tool (about $3) and some of the welding stuff, which was like $6. well worth it, imo. srawas89
Update: Clorox works wonders in cleaning out this base I had from a friend of mine. I knew I needed something strong cuz there was 6 month old mold just chillin in there. My mom suggested Clorox and I put some in, filled the base with some water until it reached the mold and I let it sit there for about 40 min. When I got back it was floating in the clorox and I just poured out the base and washed it a bunch of times to make sure no clorox was left in the base. Thanks for all your guy's help.
