rhineholt
So the other day, I was lighting my coals outside which i do often, when I noticed this HORRIBLE, i mean, a disgusting smell coming from my coals. I went over to the coal burner and smelled and sure enough, the coals smelled like complete shit. Not like starting coals, but like poop. Anyway, it was so bad, I turned off the coal burner only to find...... a dead lightning bug right in the middle. I guess it flew over and died from the heat. If you ever light coals outside, be sure they aren't anywhere near because that was a horrible experience. Does anyone else have any stories about lighting coals? Stuie
I light my coals inside. Sometimes my wife cooks eggs (kinda like the Swedish Chef on the Muppet Show) and I will light some coals then realize there's some eggs on the burner, stuck underneath. Not cool. peaceman27
I light my coals outside too. I also store them out there, and on my last batch of coconaras i left the packaging open. it gave them a bad taste. also, i've had coals (starlight nats) explode when they are on the burner. TheyCallMeDave
Although I don't have a story about lighting coals, I can tell you that once my cocos were lit, I've had a lightning bug land on them. Mating was a failure for them that night. Lol.
FunkyBuddha
There's a lot of dry shrubs and what not outside (yay southern Nevada!) so I do mine on my electric stove inside. Only story I have is I left one on a burner for about five minutes one time due to being absent minded and easily distracted. It was a Three Kings coal and took it like a champ. Coal was flaming a bit so I moved it to an unlit burner and let it cool down. Smoked fine, I was somewhat impressed it hadn't just exploded or fell apart. Skoozle
I lit my first round of Golden Canarys on the grill last weekend while I was barbequeing some ribs and grilling some chicken.

Chreees
Starlight Coconut Naturals always split into two slabs for me, at the most unexpected times... When I was putting them on the bowl. Horrible coals... Egyptian wood lump coals gave me quite the show one night while lighting them on my stove... Shower of sparks all over my kitchen. That was quite the experience. One time kitty knocked over my hookah on accident, leaving coal burns in several spots on my carpet. Luckily I grabbed the hookah mid-fall, so the boho vase was saved. Also my Tangiers Mini Phunnel... Anyway, carpet replacement skills ftw! Oh wait, this is for stories of outside incidents. I don't have any of those...
